Progress report and a new, daring author-type goal!

Nov 23, 2011 23:37

So, how's my progress been?

Darkest Shore is at 27,000 words (Chapter 4, page 48), but I'm taking a break from it this week.

At the moment, I'm proofreading Without Wings.  The cover art (by Crista Rowe) is done and beautiful.  The ebook ETA is December 1st.  The printed books will be available once I order at least one proof copy and see how the cover prints.  (Sometimes there's a color shift at the printer's.)

And what's this about a new author-type goal?

(Brace yourself.)

I've decided it's time I did something with this 5+ gigabytes of photos I've taken over the last 5 years, so each month I'm going to choose one of my photos for a book cover and write a 1,000-word (give or take) short story to accompany it.

And yes, I've already got December's story finished up.  (I think.  It's at 1130 words.  I may find a way to cut a bit without it being too painful later.)

I'm tentatively calling this monthly short story challenge:  A Picture & A Thousand Words.

I'm going to challenge myself to write a good short story in 1,000 words or less.  (Although I suspect I will go over my word count regularly.)  My most recent story, The Groundskeeper of Kylemore Abbey, is my November challenge.

So, in the first week of December, I'll be posting another short goodie.  Stay tuned!  (^__^)
