Casino Royale

(contains minor spoilers)

Over the week while stranded at yet another hotel, I was watching the "included in price of room" (no free lunch!) movie channel and picked up this movie.

Petty griping begins here:

1. The opening "action/chase" sequence is way too long for its own good, and kinda pushes the suspension of disbelief when we realize that the super-acrobat Mr. Bond is chasing is just, as M says, a "nobody."

2. Bond's character development in relationship to "Moneypenny" lacks definition.  He gives the whole love spiel, but the start and stop seems rather random and arbitrary.  It's easy to see her changes, but...  This may simply be me not being convinced by the acting.

3. Note for those performing CPR: just because someone is not breathing does not mean that they are lost.  Actual resuscitation usually takes more aggressive intervention, CPR  just maintains them.  Especially for a death that doesn't involve direct tissue damage (i.e. drowning), I'd imagine that our hero could have actually saved her if he'd just kept up with it.  That he chooses to let her die is a real possibility given the previous scene, but if so that decision was not well shown.  From what I remember from CPR teaching, you give up when someone with proper medical blessing says give up.  Nominally Mr. Bond could have also had that level of medical knowledge (i.e. EMT training), but...

This is an incredibly petty point, but having her actually saved by a technique that you (Uncle-Samesque pointing) might have to perform has a certain edutainment value that was lost.

4. I want M as a boss for my government agency.
