Kowalski shuffled out of their next door neighbour's, fluffy bundle tucked under his arm, nose sticking out from between the folds of the blanket. It let out a small wuffy whine as Kowalski snuck back into the apartment, the door clicking quietly shut behind him as he smothered a yawn with his free hand.
A paw wiggled out of the blanket.
"Shh! Shh, bud." He stood in the middle of the living room, gaze three-sixtying as he tried to figure out where the hide the dog. "You got to keep quiet, 'kay? Otherwise he'll hear ya."
A year was a little hard to get his head around. A year since he'd met Vecchio again and the ball had started rolling. He'd dropped the A word only a couple of times around Vecchio to let him know he hadn't forgotten. One whole year.
Kowalski sniffed and moved into the kitchen, opening a cupboard door and scooping out the cereal boxes.
"Temporary accommodation, I promise," he whispered, lifting the tiny bundle carefully up into the cupboard and sliding her back a few inches. He put a box of Capn Crunch in front of her to hide her and left the door open so she didn't freak out.
"'Kay. Um.... Stay." He waited a moment, ears pricked, then shuffled his way back to the bedroom, knocking open the door with a knee.
One whole year and an addition to the family. Sounded pretty good to him.
