Ray of Golden Sunshine

Hiroto rolled over on his side, careful not to wake the sleeping man beside him. He had tried and tried to close his eyes, let the sprinkle of dust settle over his lids and slip into a peaceful sleep.

But there he lay, the blankets only half covering his torso, eyes wide open (though oh so heavy), and the clock was nearing four in the morning. Many calming thoughts like the ocean and the sky tried to reel his racing mind into a slumber, struggling madly to get a grip and fog up Hiroto's senses.

And suddenly, Hiroto had to pee.

Now this urge to pee had been a recurring problem the entire night. First it started out normal. Hiroto held it in until the waves of release were gone and he was left content and not needing to pee so badly.

Though the intervals were quite close together, now turning into a burning urge every few minutes or so. Squeezing his eyes tight, Hiroto knew that he would have to get up, lest he wet the bed and embarrass himself forever.

Because if he did wet the bed, he wouldn't be able to face Tora for weeks and by that time, Hiroto would be sleeping on the couch in shame.

The insistant, urgent need for release subsided. He only had a few minutes left until impending doom.

Slowly, the small man eased himself out of bed as not to alert Tora that he was leaving the confines of the sheets.

Skittering across the room in nothing but boxers, Hiroto made it through the open bathroom door, not closing it behind him nor turning on the lights.

The toilet lid was opened without a sound and frantically, he stood there and peed. For fun, Hiroto counted in seconds how long he was peeing for it was beginning to seem like a long time.

By twenty, he was mildly surprised but kept emptying himself of excess fluid. By thirty, his foot began to tap on the carpet, almost impatient.

By forty, Hiroto began to worry that the stream was making too much noise and Tora would wake up, popping up from the bed to see him with his junk hanging out, peeing like a goddamn race horse.

Forty-six was where it let up and all noise ceased.

Shaking himself off, Hiroto noiselessly shut the lid and tucked himself in. He felt simply amazing. Bladder completely emptied, he made his way silently to their shared bed, relieved to hear Tora's soft breathing.

Under the sheets once more, Hiroto reveled in the warmth Tora radiated in his sleep. He sought out the man's body, huddling close, nose poking into the crook of Tora's neck.

The only thing he heard before slipping into a peaceful sleep, was Tora's low grunt and the feeling of sleepy arms around his waist.

It had been happening for over a week now.

Every morning, Tora would awake, detach himself regrettably from Hiroto's hold and mosey in the bathroom to pee. Upon entering, he would lift the lid with a clack and stare blearily at the water inside.

Only to find out that it wasn't just water.

Eyes shutting with a small grimace, he would begin to pee away into the unclean contents of the toilet, finish and flush.

That morning was no different and Tora was only slightly aggravated but more curious than anything else. Flicking off the light on his way out, he returned to their shared bed to find Hiroto half awake, arm over his eyes, mouth wide open in a yawn.

Underneath the cover of the blankets, Tora circled his arms around Hiroto's groggy body and pulled him atop his own.

"G'mornin." Hiroto mumbled, pressing a cotton-mouth kiss to Tora's chapped lips.

"Morning," Tora murmured. One hand threaded through Hiroto's blonde locks. "Hiroto?"

"Mmm?" The smaller man's eyes had closed once more, head resting comfortably on Tora's chest.

"Why have you stopped flushing the toilet?"

Hiroto's brows crinkled, eyes opening blearily. "What?"

He was still half asleep, the words and question not making any sense.

"Every morning," Tora explained softly, smoothing out the little tangles in Hiroto's hair, "I go to the bathroom but when I open the lid, it hasn't been flushed."

The blonde blinked a few times, brought a hand up to rub at one eye and blinked again.

"When I go at night, I don't flush because I don't want you to wake up." Hiroto explained simply.

Tora blinked back in response. "What?"

"I usually have to pee at night but this past week, I didn't want to walk to the other bathroom because it's colder at night," Hiroto continued, "so when I use our bathroom, the flush is louder so I didn't want to wake you up when I went."

That was certainly not what Tora was expecting.

"Hiroto. I wake you up every morning with the flush on our bathroom's toilet."

Shrugging, Hiroto laid his head back on Tora's chest.

"People are supposed to be awake in the morning, not at odd hours of the night."

Pulling the blankets around the two of them, Tora buried his face in Hiroto's hair.

"I love you," he mumbled, squeezing his sunshine close.
