Hey-llo folks!
Just thought I should update you all what im up to.
As of last week I put down my deposit for Oxford and as long as I don’t get hit by out of control mongoose driven lawn mower I think ill be ok to go. Working 40 hours a week if not more is starting to get to me and I look forward to my first full day off from school, school I work at, and Starbucks in I don’t know how long. I also plan on getting out of town in January for a few days, any suggestions? Ill take all ideas in written or MSpaint form, thank you.
I had a somewhat of an epiphany as I was sitting at my elementary school’s auditorium telling a boy to get his hands out of his pants… I don’t want to teach high school and would prefer just to get my masters and teach at a community college. I made this choice for several reasons. Firstly, is the issue of discipline within the class, while working at the school is very enjoyable I find dealing with the same schoolyard disciplinary issues a real pain but they at least do what I tell them to after the first time without coping a real attitude. In college, for the most part, they choose to be in my class and also have the choice of leaving I don’t have to worry about any disciplinary nonsense. Secondly, I have more control over my curriculum and what text I want my students to read at the college level. Working at the elementary school has showed me how much all the curriculum is pre-fabricated and pre-printed. I hate worksheets and they don’t belong in a history class. I would rather spend my time talking about some specific points more in detail then what the state-approved board hands me. I realize though there are still guidelines and structure I need to meet but not as much at the higher level. The trade off though is that if I continue with this I will probably be hired as an adjunct professor (part-time) since its cheaper that way then to give me benefits and therefore have to work at several other colleges to make a decent wage. And that is my epiphany.
I have to return to the dreaded GCC this winter since the history professors teaching US history suck at PCC but I also get to get out a week earlier which is another plus.
I made a somewhat rough idea where I want to go while backpacking in Europe and the 9 days I have for spring break in Oxford.
Italy (Oxford 9 day spring break)
- Unsure if I want a pre-packaged trip from STA or plan a backpacking through Florence, Venice, and Rome.
France
- Paris
- Caen
- Versailles
Germany
- Berlin
- Munich (and surrounding Bavarian countryside)
- Leipzig
Switzerland
- Grindelwald (alps)
Do those 3 countries seem reasonable within a 20 day time span? I plan on talking to a travel agent about finalizing this soon.
