Thinking thinky thoughts on a quiet evening

I'm settling in to watch a Polish film, and thinking about this song that I've listened to a lot today:

Well, this is a lullaby to the girl I can't have
'cause I'm out here causing trouble on the road.
When my mom and dad were my age, they'd bought a house or two
on a quiet little street in a quiet city.

There's more to do than can ever be done
More to sing about than can ever be sung
And that's why I'm out here trying to get my business done
So one day I can come back home to you.

Well this is a lullaby to the son that I don't have
'cause I'm out here causing trouble on the road.
When my mom and dad were my age they would hold me in their arms,
I would squirm and learn to one day walk away.

There's more to do than can ever be done
More to sing about than can ever be sung
And that's why I'm out here trying to get my business done
So one day I can come back home to you.
So one day I can come back home to you.
