I spent the week with my new friend, strep throat. He moved in last Saturday and I didn't know his name until Wednesday, when I was finally able to justify staying home from work and go to the clinic. Obviously in retrospect I should not have worked until I was on antibiotics, but...hey. Whatcha gonna do.
Monday I had a presentation to do with one of my colleagues during our big department conference call. The presentation was on the shift in terrorism since 9/11 and focusing on suspicious behaviors/packages that may show up in our stores. On Tuesday we had a meeting with the Deputy Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, and of course it was in the late afternoon, so I had to be there all day even though I felt AWFUL.
And I had homework.
But, I am doing much better now. Getting ready to kick strep to the curb. He wasn't invited and I've slowly been moving his crap onto the street (in the form of tissues). Blech.
I hate being sick. I have no time for it. Not that anyone does, but really?
Today I got a Kinect for the XBOX 360 - a gift for the hard work I put in at our conference in August. I'm giving it to Kyle for his birthday (12/30) along with a few games, which I'm picking up this weekend. We get an extra 10% stacked on our employee discount this week. He doesn't read my blog, I have no fear of him discovering this information! I'm actually really excited about this present, I think one of the games I'm getting is Dance Central. :)
In other news...I submitted two proposals for APA this year, at the very last minute. I actually took one of my papers from last year, extracted the most interesting section, and designed a proposal around it (Jung, the nature of evil, and religion). I had 45 minutes before the deadline last Wednesday, and decided to throw together another proposal just for kicks. This one attempts to redefine the diagnostic criteria for internet addiction.
It is sad (but convenient?) that my success at APA resides almost exclusively on my ability to improvise on a deadline.
But hey, it has worked for the past five years.
So keep your fingers crossed, Jerseychick! If just one gets accepted, I will see you for sure next August.
In other news...I am really looking forward to my Mom coming at the end of the month. I haven't seen her since August, and I miss her! I'll get to see my brother Danny, SIL Gemma, and finally get to meet my nieces Gracie and Sarah. It's going to be an awesome Christmas.
Hope everyone is well!
