It's time to wrap up the year. I did this back at the end of
2010,
2011,
2012,
2013 and now for 2014:
1. What did you do in 2014 that you'd never done before?
a.) Started work at a high school
b.) Went to Hawaii!
c.) Flew over the pacific
d.) Surfed
e.) Sent a kindergartener to school
f.) Became a parent working in an office
g.) bought a Hello Kitty dress. In pink. With tulle. And sparkles.
h.) went to the wedding of someone I knew as a toddler
i.) treated my kids for lice. Let's let this end this year, ok?
2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Last year's resolutions:
"I may be done with resolutions. It never works out for the whole year, or for very long at all. I know what I need to do. I don't know that I'll do it. Sigh. Maybe me resolution should be to put up signs around the house reminding me of what I need to do. I am so becoming my mother."
Well, I suppose I kept not keeping them. Rah rah to that. No signs. But I think I'm back to resolutions. So here's this year's:
1> Make resolutions
2> Make a list of things to do for me each month and make time for as many of them as possible
3> Lose 10 pounds (I am so cliche. But this year I really need to).
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Rocklyn finally had her baby girl, Hayden. Dominique had baby Lena. Kristi had baby Ava. Big year for girls!
4. Did anyone close to you die?
Sadly yes, we lost my father-in-law just before Thanksgiving.
5. What countries did you visit?
This one. But I went outside the continental US, that's pretty huge for us.
6. What would you like to have in 2015 that you lacked in 2014?
This doesn't seem to change: Calm, peace, freedom from worry. Financial security, patience.
7. What date from 2014 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
Is it pathetic I don't remember dates really at all? Big days were Guthrie's first day of kindergarten, the day Stephen's father passed away, my first day of work in an office in many many years.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Job, especially planning Feast. Smiling more. Putting more emphasis on happiness.
9. What was your biggest failure?
Weight gain. The most of my life without being pregnant.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Only in my head, which is rough but could certainly be worse.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
Hmmm...Hawaii expenses, mortgage payments, dinner at Heirloom, drinks at 116 Crown
12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Guthrie has really matured, and I've had many proud moments.
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Darren Wilson, Ismaaiyl Brinsley, and others who use weapons instead of brains and words.
14. Where did most of your money go?
Bills. Kids. I told Stephen recently that if we were child-free we would probably travel way more and have no idea what we were missing.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Going to see Ira Glass perform, going surfing, getting a big girl job, Christmas, Rocklyn's baby, movie nights, G's dino party
16. What song will always remind you of 2014?
I Bet My Life & Demons (Imagine Dragons), Riptide (Vance Joy), All About that Bass (Meghan Trainor), El Teke Teke (Crazy Design), Big Booty
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
- happier or sadder? Happier
- richer or poorer? Close to the same, though making WAY less!
- thinner or fatter? Fatter. Sad trombone.
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Stretch. Forgive myself. Exercise.
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Binge eating. Losing my temper.
20. How did you spend the holidays?
Christmas proper was lovely. Kids slpet in a little. Eliza snuggled in bed with us until G was ready to go downstairs. G went down first and immediately went to Eliza's santa presents and brought them over to her, cheering "Santa brought you a baby! Look Eliza an Elmo counting mat!" and once she was delighted, he went to his chair and wooted and jumped with his new shark. Stocking were opened and then we watched Sesame St. Christmas while waiting for Grammy to arrive. I couldn't believe they didn't fuss about opening presents NOW but they didn't. Grammy arrived and we had a wonderful traditional breakfast of ham and cheese dandy and cinnamon rolls, and then opened some more presents. G was grcious and sweet and Eliza was happy. When Eliza ran out of presents G let her open his. Much playing, much happiness. Post nap, we went to the Mazzingues for an amazing dinner. Wonderful day. Part 2 was on the 28th when my family arrived. Eliza napped a little, all kids played with train tracks, and we all went out to eat as a pack of 14. Pretty cool. Exhausting and far more chaotic but cool and made me feel lucky.
21. Did you fall in love in 2013?
Not with anybody new. But I adore my family.
22. How many one-night stands?
Really?
23. What was your favorite TV program?
The Killing, The Black List, Orange is the New Black, Transgender, Project Runway
24. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
No.
25. What was the best book you read?
I read something this year? Sigh.
26. What was your favorite film of this year?
We watched In a World last night. It is the only non-kid movie I can recall seeing, though there were a couple others. None especially stood out. That one was good. Whatever.
27. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2014?
I love the idea that I HAD a personal fashion concept. I was all amped to dress professional for my new job. I outgrew that after about 6 weeks, esepcially since it got colder. I'm trying to be aware of my neckline (crewnecks work best I think), find decent bras, and cover my ever-growing muffin top. I don't have money to buy more clothes so I really need to lose this weight.
28. Whom did you miss?
I still miss Bobbie. I learned that Ivan Z. passed away back in 2009. I get really mad at heroin sometimes. I miss friends that are far away, and even some that are relatively near. I wish I had more time and energy for friends. I miss my grandmas. I am starting to miss Ron, though it is still so fresh there are moments when I forget, and then it hurts again.
29. Who was the best new person you met?
Youna and Molly for sure. Also Carol and Thea. Didn't meet a lot of new people.
30. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2014.
I ain't leant nuthin' (because I know it all!)
