COMRADES.
i am directing a spoken word show for an early march festival at the university; five theatre majors are performing individual and group pieces by the likes of daphne gottlieb, mike henry, matthew john conley--and themselves. most of the cast had never read poetry or been to a reading before, and they absolutely adore the work. it is awesome.
so i am looking for haiku to perform between longer poems, because the haiku are really a lovely part of slam culture--even considering how we occasionally mangle the form. what are your favorite haiku, o poetry experts of mine? yours or someone else's; if i can get permission to perform them, i would be honored and thrilled.
reply to this or email me at k80fs at yahoo dot com. repost this at will, ask all your friends--i'm hoping to be flooded by haiku.
so no one feels awkward sharing, here are the three i'm donating:
HAIKU TO FILL THE VACANCIES
release the sparrow
wrapped in your ribs; he will steal
away with your tears
HAIKU FOR THE BOY WHO HUMPED ME
ON THE LIVING ROOM FLOOR WHILE HIS WIFE
RAN TO BLOCKBUSTER AND WENDY'S
don't bother to call
me in the morning; i'm not your
fucking girlfriend
HAIKU WHOSE TITLE I'VE FORGOTTEN
i bought blank razors
instead of breakfast to draft
dawn a love letter
