A really short one-sided drabble filled with Gokura angst. Lol. :))
It was midnight when Gokudera wakes up to notice the empty space next to his. With half lidded but alert eyes, he scans the room for any signs of her. Seeing nothing, he sits up and reaches for his pack of cigarettes. He stares at it, perhaps fighting the need, and decides against it. He falls back on his head and he closes his eyes. The night was quiet, warm, just like one would expect in Sicily.
Haru was nothing but the picture of pure happiness the day Tsuna and Kyoko got married. She was all smiles all the way to the final vows. She was crying happy tears as she ran and trapped both Tsuna and Kyoko in a congratulatory hug, wishing both of them happiness for as long as they lived. Watching from the sidelines, Gokudera knew better. As soon as the guests filed out and the cathedral was left for the reception. She wasn’t smiling anymore and he was right. Gokudera sighs in annoyance and he stands up from the last pew, unsure of what to do. He finds himself walking up to her cautiously, silently and hands her his handkerchief. “You can cry you know.” He says carefully. She looks up at him and for a moment he sees appreciation in her eyes. And she cries.
His eyes snap open and he sits up. He sits idly for a while, thinking to himself. And then slowly, he stands up and walks quietly to the balcony. Muffled sobs become full blown cries with each step. And almost immediately, he knows what was going on.
It was never really clear to him why she chose to marry him. They were different, all too different. There were many things about him that infuriated her just as there were many things about her that infuriated him. They were different, but alike in so many ways. She was second best in his heart just like he was second best in hers. Haru would never smile at him like he smiled at his boss. Once he had asked about it, almost angrily he remembers, she had smiled and told him he was being an idiot and that it was the same way she smiled at everyone. He didn’t quite get it, but he knew it wasn’t the same. In bed, she tells him she loves him more than anything, than anyone and she kisses him; but he knows it’s not him she sees.
Stopping short of the door, he hesitates for a moment before turning the handle. He has more than gotten used to it, seeing her there, eyes red from crying. But for some reason, seeing the sight of his wife crying helplessly for a man other than him affected him more than he would ever admit.
He kneels beside her and she looks up. She has stopped crying and she smiles. He stares back at her and nods, taking her into his arms. She is surprised but relaxes in his embrace. He buries his face on the crook of her neck and hugs her tighter.
“I love you.” She says.
And he knows it wasn’t him she sees.
End.
Well that's it. My first ever KHR fic. I hope I didn't murder Goku's character too much. I wanted to try and write him angsty for a change lol.
Disclaimer: I will NEVER own KHR. :(
