So I finally brought myself back to the gym. I think its been like a 4 month absense, and omg it was rough. My whole body is just aching today. I did the eliptical for 15 minutes and then decided to hop into the pool. I think this was my mistake because I really pushed myself. Swimming USS 4th grade through high school I was in pretty good shape ( Read more... )

sugar you gotta start slow and work your way up. You do as much as you can one day without killing yourself or pulling any muscles, or pushing yourself to the very limit, you can do all that once your a little more used to the routine. For example when I used to do the stair stepper and was in some kind of good shape, I started with 15 minutes and that about killed me, and then did that for a week, the next week I added five minutes to that and so on and so forth. :) Don't kill yourself sweetie

start off slow!

work with low weights and fairly high reps... weight training will help your swimming too.. so many women are afraid to go lift weights, but it is sooo important...

(opps hit post on accident)

i'd say do a nice warm up the eliptical (15 minutes or so) trying to keep your heartrate around 127. this puts you in the fat burning zone, and its not too strenious...

then i would suggest focusing on different muscles on different days... for example, if you work out 3 days a week day 1 go with arms and chest. try mixing it up weekly, but do 3 sets of 3-4 exercises... then wednesdays do legs, and fridays do shoulders/back and abs...

and then use your swiming as your cardio, wrap it all up with 20-30 minutes in the pool...

if your workout goes much over 1-1.5 hours you are less likely to keep it up... so if you do a 10-15 minute warm-up, 20-30 minutes of weights and another 20 minutes in the pool you should be golden ;)

hehe.. i know how that goes... we were hitting the gym 4-5 days a week pretty regularly for a long time, then when the holidays rolled around, between the winter flu that was passed around, christmas shopping, and the actual holidays and what not it just fell apart... we just started to get back in the habit this week.. and while it feels really good to get back into it, it's definitely not easy ;)
