IPSY: JANUARY 2016
ALL EYES ON YOU
When this Ipsy bag first arrived, I was in for an unpleasant surprise. The outer envelope had been slashed with a blade, which also cut through the make-up bag and one of the products, spilling eye serum all over the other items. It was a mess. Luckily, Ipsy customer service is always amazing, and they sent me a replacement bag and new product samples to make up for the post office's carelessness.
I'm really glad that they replaced the bag, because I love the Andy Warhol/pop art vibe of this bag. It's very retro sixties, which is really appropriate for a bag themed around eye make-up. No other decade had such distinctive make-up that focused on long lashes, heavy liners, and eye-popping colors.
PUR~LISSE Blue Lotus 4-in-1 Eye Adore Serum: Intensie hydration. Skin-firming. Brighten dark spots. Decrease puffiness. This serum promises to do allof these things if you use it twice daily. For the price, it'd better be doing some miracle-working. Sample size. $30.00
THE BALM Mr. Write Now Eye Liner in “Jac”: Jac is an extremely waxy eye liner. I found it a bit difficult to apply to my eyelids, and the bronze color didn't show very well on my skin. I was surprised because it seemed to glide smoothly when I swatch-tested it on my arm; I guess this liner just doesn't like the texture of my facial skin. Full size. $17.00
CITY COLOR COSMETICS Eyeshadow Trio in “Falling Leaves”: This is a really nice color set for me. A matte brown, a metallic brown, and a shimmer champagne highlighter complete this trio, and all three colors are ones I use daily. Pigment strength is about what you'd expect in a $2 color. Full size. $5.99
JELLY PONG PONG Fairy Lashes Mascara: I haven't tried this yet but if it does curl lashes as effectively as the packaging claims, that would be great. I don't need great length or thickness; I'm just happy to have my lashes a little more visible than they are naturally. I like the effect of mascara when it's applied properly but I have such a hard time using it. Full size. $21.95
LASTING SMILES Organic Lip Balm in “Peppermint Creme”: For every one thousand lip balms sold, a child is given cleft lip surgery. That's pretty exciting. It's a good minty lip balm, moisturizing without stickiness. Full size. $3.99
There's a lot of full-sized products in this bag, which is nice. Other than the lip balm, everything in here was for the eye area. That's unusually focused for Ipsy, and it makes me wonder if future bags will focus on skin, or nails, or lips. We'll see in February!
