IPSY: OCTOBER 2015
ALTER EGO
This month's theme suggests transformation and trying something new. That totally makes sense for the month of October, the home of Halloween. I thought Ipsy might throw something completely out of character into the bag - maybe a bright neon-colored eyeshadow or false eyelashes

The bag is metallic faux-leather in brilliant gold on one side, and shiny black vinyl on the other. It makes me think of 60s-era Catwoman for some reason. Now that would be a fun costume to wear on some future Halloween...

THEBALM COSMETICS Meet Matt(e) Hughes Long-Lasting Liquid Lipstick in Committed: This pinky-nude color isn't the most flattering color on me - almost looks like a shade of terracotta. Although it has the thickness and opacity of a lipstick, it is applied like a lip gloss, which took a bit of practice since the lipstick trended toward “gloppy” on the end of the wand. The slightly thinner formula also has a tendency to settle into the cracks of my lips instead of creating an even surface. I like the vanilla mint flavor, so it's too bad this liquid lipstick doesn't seem likely to work out for me. Travel size. $4.25

BEAUTY WITHOUT CRUELTY Fragrance Free Hand and Body Lotion: I'm always up for more body lotion. I use it daily so I go through quite a lot over the course of a month. I like that this lotion is fragrance free. Fragrance neutral would be a more accurate term since it has its own light nut butter scent. It will layer nicely with perfumes, which is great. Travel size. $1.50

SKONE COSMETICS Pretty Eyes Eyeliner in Plum: I have such a mixed opinion with eyeliners. I mean, I love using them, but I'm terrible at lining my eyes. I mean, tightlining is fine but trying to do a cat's eye or something like that always ends with crooked or uneven lines. This particular shade of purple isn't very dark, so it feels like I'm a teenager again, playing with bright colors worthy of Jem and the Holograms. Full size. $15.00

NOURISH ORGANIC Argan Face Serum: Oh good, I've been out of face serum for about a week and hadn't gotten around to buying a new one, so this couldn't have arrived at a better time. I am not familiar with this product, but I quite liked a face cream I got from the same company in an earlier Ipsy bag. Travel size. $17.14

LAURA GELLER Baked Blush-n-Brighten in Tropic Hues: When you read the description of this blush and how it is lovingly baked on terracotta tiles in Italy for twenty-four hours, you can't help but wonder what difference it makes to the product. Don't get me wrong, it's a perfectly wonderful pink blush...but it doesn't seem substantially different form other that I've tried. That said, I do love how the layers of color make the blush look like a miniature Jupiter, and it does translate well to the skin. Full size. $27.50

There were definitely some treats in this bag, like the face serum and the body lotion. I'd add the Laura Geller blush to that list, too. The lipstick and the eyeliner were disappointing, since the colors weren't quite what I wanted, but at least Ipsy's sending things that are in make-up categories that I want. That's not always the case.
