Labor Day rolled by and I didn’t hear back from the children’s bookstore. I waited a few extra days, because I don’t want to be a buzzing gnat constantly pestering the owners, and then I sent a quick note asking if I might attend Educator Night - a special evening when the owner invites educators from around the county to see the latest and greatest books while giving away discounts and prizes and all sorts of good stuff! - and see what a big event at their store was like. The owner replied quickly and said yes, they’d love for me to attend.
Nothing about the job.
But at this point I’m probably still under consideration, right? Since they would have said, “No, don’t bother” if I wasn’t? So I fretted for a few days while keeping myself busy with other tasks.
Today I got a second e-mail which let that spark of hope glow bright once again:
Suzi, We’ll look forward to seeing you on Educator Night to give you a glimpse into one of our busier events and to hear your response. You are at the top of our list and this will help both you and us to find if it is a good match. Our doors open at 6:00 and the event actually gets rolling at 7:00. We’ll see you when you get there. Looking forward to it
I don’t know how, but I’ll have to figure out a way to shine on Educator Night so they’ll think I’m a great match for the store.
