GLOSSYBOX
MARCH 2014
Huh.
I guess Glossybox didn’t feel like putting a cute little message in the box this year, so I’m not sure what the overall theme of this box is supposed to be. Maybe there is no theme. The product selection really seems to be a hodgepodge of random things. But on the plus side, there’s a bonus item in the box, which makes things a little more exciting than usual.
ALEX AND ANI Scent 7 Body Mist: This body splash reminds me of the good ol’ days at Bath & Body Works, because that’s probably the last time I actually bought something like this. Body mists make me think of junior high school, when all the girls had little bottles of spray in their PE lockers to spray on after class. Scent 7 has a very fresh, clean, herbal scent supposedly “created with the four elemental energies of earth, air, fire and water”. Sure. It’s pleasant enough, but nothing to get super-excited over. $18.00.
ALEX AND ANI Bangle Bracelet: This bracelet is a bonus item in this month’s box. Clearly, Alex and Ani is owned and creatively controlled by flower children. The perfume spray captures elemental energy while this Swan bangle bracelet will encourage the wearer to “glide through life with an open heart” with “devoted energy”. Uh, what? This would make a good layering piece with several other bangles, but by itself this swan bracelet is something I would never wear. Oh well. Maybe I can trade it somewhere. $28.00.
ALTERNA HAIRCARE Bamboo Volume Plumping Strand Expand: Hair thickening lotion. I’ve never really needed to thicken my hair - I’ve got plenty of it without any help! Still, this might make a decent leave-in conditioner, if it’s not too heavy. $5.50.
ETRE BELLE COSMETICS Liplift Peel: Whaaat??? I didn’t even know lips ever needed to be lifted. Unless this product is like a topical lip plumper? That would just be weird. Oh, those wacky Germans, coming up with ideas like this! $17.80.
NAILS INC Brook Street Nail Polish: This is oh so very bright! It’s practically blinding… Nails Inc describes the color as a “summery coral” but it looks more fuchsia in person. Eh. It’s OK, but I have similar colors so not too exciting. $4.75
SISLEY PARIS Black Rose Cream Mask: Sisley Paris is another of those brands that I’ve known about for years but never tried because their products are freakin’ expensive! For example, a full-sized tube of this face mask is $158.00! At that price, the mask ought to give me a brand new face that’s completely wrinkle-free! Oh, and violet eyes. I’ve always wanted those because all the heroines in the adventure novels I read as a kid had violet eyes. But hey, since this face mask is here I’ll definitely give it a whirl. It actually sounds incredibly nice - and I love anything with roses in it! 26.34.
Glossybox is such an interesting contrast to Ipsy - I receive similar things from the two subscription services each month, but Glossybox definitely aims higher-end than Ipsy. Ipsy is much more playful, though - obviously skewing to a younger demographic. Today’s box had about $100 in product - not a bad return on my $13.75 investment.
