It's February, the month of romance and pink hearts and sugary sweetness. Ipsy, accordingly, as themed this month's bag as "The Look of Love". What does love look like? I mean, when translated into a pots of makeup and face creams and other cosmetics? I guess I would think of bright reds and the pinkiest pinks for the lips, but other than that I'm drawing a blank.
Clearly, lips and pink hearts were also the two things that first came to Ipsy's mind, but what else is in the bag?
NuMe Intense Renewal Hair Mask: "Unleash levels of moisture that make hair more resistant to breakage from future styling and color treatments...your hair will show dramatic improvement and superior results after the first treatment." Cool! One of the curses of having waist-length hair is constant breakage. Any product that can help with that definitely has my attention. When I look at the ingredient list, I don't see anything but chemicals with complicated names, like Dimethiconol Meadowfoamate. I trend toward more natural ingredients, so that's a little disappointing, but I'll try it out anyway. I'm guessing this is worth about $5.00? There's no size information, but the full-sized bottle is $29.00 for 6.9 oz and the sample looks like it would be between one and two ounces.
Zoya Nail Polish in Odette: Odette is the name of the white swan princess in Swan Lake, so I find the color of the nail polish surprising - I definitely wouldn't have thought of mauve. Maybe there's another Odette in pop culture that I don't know for whom the color makes sense. Anyway, mauve is not a color I would ever buy for myself, especially not in an opaque cream polish. But since it's here, I might as well try it. Who knows? It might make a good pedicure color. This full-sized nail polish bottle retails for $9.00
Tini Beauty Eyetini Cordial Cream Eyeshadow in Spiced Rum: Copper is really not a color I would expect in a February bag - it seems more appropriate in autumn! This is the second copper color Ipsy has sent me recently - last month it was a "penny" eye pencil. It's like they really, really want me to embrace this color. Well, I'll give it a try - the creamy texture of the eyeshadow is really nice. I just wish it was a different color! This eyeshadow retails for $18.00.
City Color Be Matte Blush in Melon: Melon is a very vibrant, bright color - frankly, it looks too orange for me. I won't be using this. It looks really big, initially, but the pan of powder is really quite shallow. $2.99 for 8g.
Pop Beauty Plump Pout Mini in Peony Petal: Remember when Lip Venom first came out and lip plumpers were all the rage? Well, I sure do because I've got pretty thin lips, and plumpers always seemed like such a great idea. Lip Venom was painful to use, though - too much cinnamon in the formula always led to a burning, and then a numbing sensation. I wonder what Pop Beauty uses as their plumping agent? This is a fun, pink color that I would totally use. This half-sized sample is worth about $8.00.
I've received all of these brands before in previous Ipsy bags except City Color, but I've got some of their nail polishes so it's not an entirely new company to me. I can't decide whether that's a good thing or a bad thing. I've liked my items from Pop Beauty and Zoya and Tini Beauty, except when the colors were ones that didn't match my skin. But I always like to try new things, too.
The Ipsy bag itself is just a plain pink bag with a white zipper. Very bland and inoffensive. The contents are worth over $40.00, so I wouldn't complain about the value, but there's no one perfect item that I'm super excited to try this time. Oh well! You can't have a hit every month.
