What’s the best way to start your morning in Disneyland?
I’m not sure, but I think I’d put my money on puffy, fresh beignets coated in powdered sugars. Sticky fingers, happy tummy. Besides, during the Halloween season Disneyland has pumpkin beignets, and they are delicious!
Jeans had a flight to catch in the early afternoon, but we were still able to spend a lot of time in the parks. We rode the Jungle Cruise (after a rather lousy skipper last night, we had to make up for it!) and the Haunted Mansion and as many other rides that we could get in and out of quickly.
We also made Jeans go out to Tom Sawyer Pirate Island, which was something she had never done before. I like running around in the caves and peeking through the cracks in Fort Longhorn to try and see what the cast members store in there. Some of the new pirate-themed additions are pretty neat, too - it’s a very well-themed area, at least! At the back of the island we were lucky enough to stumble into Jack Sparrow, so Jeans was able to get a picture with him and check another Disney Dude off her master list.
After dropping Jeans off at the airport, Seanie and I decided to go through the classic Fantasyland rides. They’re cute and nostalgic and by later afternoon, most of them don’t have much of a line anymore. So we did the Pinocchio ride and Snow White and Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride and the Storybookland Canals.
There was an exhibit about The Enchanted Tiki Room up in the Disney art gallery, which was pretty cool. Amongst other neat relics, they had the original Barker Bird animatronic that used to sit outside the Tiki Room, talking to guests as they waited in line. I think it was gone long before I ever visited a park, but it’s neat that someone still had the bird stored in a box somewhere.
In the evening we made sure to find good seats for the World of Color water show. It was fun - I had not seen it since it was updated for Brave last year. Part of me misses the extended Pirates of the Caribbean sequence, because the mermaid song was both creepy and perfectly suited to a water show. But it was still a wonderful celebration of Disney animation and creativity.
