The big goal for today was to cross the state border from Nevada into Utah. More specifically, Seanie and I had to get to Cedar City, the last “big” town en route to Boulder. Size is, naturally, relative - Cedar City is smaller than some neighborhoods of San Jose, at just under 30,000 people. But compared to a town like Boulder, it’s massive. Cedar City is home to both a university and a Shakespeare Festival. So really, it’s the high life here.
We made sure to get into town early because we had tickets to see Peter and the Starcatcher at the matinee showing. I’ll write about it in more detail in a separate post, but suffice it to say that it was really fun and I enjoyed the heck out of it. There are a lot of other shows I wouldn’t mind seeing at the Utah Shakespeare Festival this summer, including The Tempest, King John and 12 Angry Men. I don’t know how often I’ll be able to make it back, but I hope I can somehow fit more theater into my schedule.
We had dinner at Centro Woodfired Pizzeria, which had the advantage of being next door to our hotel AND the
highest rated restaurant on Yelp. It was delicious. I had a fig and prosciutto pizza that was just perfect - the fruit was fresh and the crust was crisp and oh, it was so good!
But once again, after wandering up and down the main street, poking our noses into a pawn shop and a bookstore and a going-out-of-business DVD rental place, we were out of things to do. The local movie theater didn’t have anything we wanted to see, so we drifted back to the hotel room and read our books.
