Onychomycosis, or "We can't say anything definite about your condition."

My fingernails on my right hand are doing this freaky thing where the nail is incrementally splitting off from the nail shaft.  It doesn't hurt or anything, but it looks rather gross.  So far, only three of my fingers are effected - pinkie, ring and middle.  I went to the doctor today and she couldn't really determine anything except that yes, there was some separation going on.  She suggested that it might be a fungal infection (Onychomycosis) and took a photo to show one of her colleagues, who then came in to see for himself.  He suggested that rather than a fungus, the nails might be reacting to my psoriasis.

Delightful either way.  They gave me some steroid drops to apply twice a day, and suggested I use more hand cream.  As if I, a bath and body product junkie, don't slather myself in potions and lotions all the time!  But whatever.  If I'm lucky, the damaged nail will grow out and disappear within a few months; if I'm not, it looks like my right hand is destined to be totally ugly for the rest of my life.
