Thanksgiving

I'm sitting here watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. I love the Parade. It personifies exactly what the holiday now means to America and its people. Commercialism.

Thanksgiving was originally meant as a holiday in which people gave thanks for what little they did or did not have. It was never meant to become the gluttonous feast it now is, wherein everyone competes to see who can make themselves sick from too much turkey first.

But then, seeing as none of us are trying to make a change, we must like our holidays this way. I mean, in about a half hour I'll be heading over to Davy's to watch the parade and debate over who gets the last wanton in the soup. (He's as white as you can get, but his parents always order chinese food for the Thanksgiving Meal...go figure...) But at least I will be thankful for it, and give thanks to whom it belongs.

I know it's different for everyone - Buddha, Jesus, Allah, the Goddess...maybe no one at all. But this Thanksgiving, whether you eat egg rolls or turkey or honey-baked ham, thank whoever it is who is above you. If you're an atheist, than give thanks to yourself, because congratulations - you've survived evolution and you're at the top of the food chain.

Later.

thanksgiving, davy
