People do not treat male and female homosexuals the same way. I might sound politically incorrect here, but men tends to think that lesbians are not for real -- the common perception is lesbians just have a soft warm-up play before a real man comes in and joins the party. Gays, on the other hand, are for real.

you look on subject from male point of view. from female's such song can be a "pop hit". most girls like both - mans and girls. but most mans like only girls and hate gays.

Valid point. But

Just as the word «gay» is sometimes used as a shorthand for the term LGBT, so is «gay community» sometimes a synonym for the «LGBT community.» In other cases, the speaker may be referring only to homosexual men.

I hope it's clear from the context (lesbians vs. gays) that I refer to the men only.

Не знаю, что там пишут на википедии, но я ни разу не слышала, чтобы тут говорили lesbian. Говорят she is gay.

Часто встречался с мнением о лесбиянках примерно как о коротко стриженых неопрятных мужиковатых бабах в растянутых майках и камуфляжных штанах. Вот бисексуалки - это совершенно другое дело, да! :)
