The Big Day: Getting ready and the Tea Ceremony

Apr 11, 2010 18:56

Where did we leave off? Ah breakfast...

Round about 12.30 p.m., I started my prep; a quick shower followed by hair and makeup (a slight regret).

I'll happily admit: I find that I am one of the lucky few who pretty much need no make up to look good. A little mascara and lipgloss to highlight what I've been given and that's it. I should have stuck my ground on wanting light (natural) makeup for the wedding even if it didn't show through on photos. Sharon did a fantastic job but 每个人的审美观 is different. Conventional Asian colours / ideas / schemes / looks don't work on me. I have odd (and very sharp - thanks Pa for the eyebrows) features that work fabulously together on my face and need no/little enhancement. Mr. P and many of my closest and dearest agree.  But I really liked the fake lashes even if I didn't need that (heh).

Oh well, you live and learn.

Anyhoodle, I love love love my hair both for the tea ceremony (modified French twist with rose petals) and the main event (loose ponytail with a free orchid from the breakfast table at the hotel - another story altogether).

My family was running 30 minutes late because my darling mother was being super vain. My sister even asked her, "是要嫁女儿还是你结婚?" This was the only point in the whole day I felt my temperature rising (they were bringing the roses for my hair) and thankfully I had my bestfriend - Sandhya - to helped calm me down.

The Tea Ceremony went off without a hitch. It was done as a spot of fun for Mr. P's family and of course as a nice little way of bringing one tradition I care about into the wedding - tea only for IMMEDIATE family. I think the main entertainment was Mr. P in his 马褂.

Champagne at 3.30... A great start if you ask me!

My favourite bit of the afternoon is having some down time between the tea ceremony and the nuptials. I got to chill out with my folks, sister, godma and San. That did more than enough to calm my nerves. And my dear sister was being so extremely sweet to offer to stay with me until the wedding buggy came to take us up to the Glass House (that's what I'll call it). Bless!

I especially love this collage of images, how everyone is laughing :)
