Ah I just can't keep things simple.
A few things that seem to have changed the equation a bit. It looks like the batteries in my 350D are, in fact, NOT the same ones that my 300D uses,... so the idea of keeping everything in sync is kinda a no-go.
I also ended up doing a bit of reading on CMOS vs CCD IR and am having trouble making sense of the debates around them.. but I have seen quite a bit of 'for IR get a Nikon D(something) or Fujifilm FinePix IS S5 (a scientific camera that is UV/IR out of the box)... but debate on the sensor type seems a bit confusing.
I do see people talk about how much better the Nikon cameras are for IR, but I am not sure how well this is backed up. I admit it would be fun to play with Nikon stuff since that opens up industrial lenses... but it also in many ways does not seem worth it given my investment in Canon equipment... ah, incompatible standards....
I am also wondering, if I do get a full frame camera, would I want it converted to full spectrum? On the plus side it would result in nice pictures all around, on the other hand it would probably render my fisheye useless (unless I get an IR cut gell, which is possible).. it would also limit which lenses I could use in general since only with 72mm can I convert the camera back to 'normal'...
eh, on well, back to work.
