Wow. I got a call from my brother today, to announce that his long-time girlfriend is pregnant. They considered not having it but have now decided to do so, so some congratulations are in order. Finally I am not going to be the only sibling who's spawned! There is some stress with this announcement though, as my brother recently lost his job. But he's been offered jobs in both Perry, GA and a place in Texas (via the girlfriend's mother), so hopefully he'll be all right.
I've done the planning for an Amnesty International
Taste for Justice party on Thursday of this week, at the office. PO is springing for the pizza and has kindly allowed everyone to bring their own drinks, alcoholic or no, while we sit down to write letters for several of the campaigns going on right now. There are five campaigns, and I think I'll choose two letters from each to give everyone a little variety... I'm not expecting them to write all ten letters, of course, but it's more than might have been written otherwise. It's going to be fun. If there's any interest, I can post the copies of the letters I'll be drafting here later, along with addresses.
In related news, I think it's safe to say that my social life is picking up. :D
Now that I've settled into the apartment and have something the vaguely resembles a routine, I've also been heavily campaigning for visits. There's not a lot of room, it's true, but I have the futon and a queen-sized inflatable mattress to stick people on. Plans are in the works to get my parents up here, contact has been made with a few old school friends and word has it that
bumblepudding may venture up into the great frozen wastes as well. When the parents do make it up here, I'm going to have to figure out what do to with the cats for the duration of their stay, though. Mom is pretty heavily allergic and the little fiends have dandruff like no one's business. Maybe Mike will be willing to take them, he expressed some interest in how they were doing the last time we spoke.
I'm crazy tired but I have to say, knowing people and actually hanging out with them is all sorts of fun. Who knew!
