(no subject)

With the car [mostly] fixed, I'm hoping to get filming done next week and in the first week of the spring break.

For the portfolio development deadline on Friday, I'm gonna use the same design layout I've got on http://www.jynxkat.org.uk, but I'll do other stuff to pad it out. I figure if I've liked the stuff on the site for nearly a year, then it's good enough to stay. I've also decided that I don't just want the cards and designs to be monochrome, as much as I'm addicted to it. I feel a little splash of red will marry the things up a little smarter, and currently I'm very fond of flower shapes for its format. For inspiration in this area I'm listing http://www.suilen.net (which is the official website for a Japanese ambient noise group called "Suilen" or "Lotus" when translated into English, and the site is beautiful). Due to that inspiration, I've narrowed down to either the lotus flower shape or the orchid flower shape, as the petals and overall shape of the flowers are very striking and sharp.

I also took a look through a bundle of the stuff I've done over the last few years, and I have a lot more than I previously realised that's worth brushing up and sticking in a portfolio, online or otherwise. So over the next couple of weeks I think I'm going to go through that and start filtering stuff out. If I'm going to be directing stuff to the website to say "HERE, SEE MY WORK"... it'd be a good thing to have some work up there, right? :D! I'm not too fussy about it looking like a high-end flashed up website. Simple and clean. Yes please.

There's a Kodak competition for making a commercial that I'm looking into. I emailed asking for more details about it yesterday, so hopefully someone will get back to me with a response soon, as so far the url the leaflet gives us leads to nothing!

I emailed Paul today with questions re: appendices and reading the draft of the diss. when it's completed, prior to a meeting discussing the thing! So far:

First Draft: 4453 words, with the Abstract, Contents, Introduction, Subject, and 2 out of 3 case studies complete. Left: 1 case study, project work, and conclusion. 3000 words. Then the appendices, which so far will include annotated screenshots from the case studies and lyrics for the songs [translated, as they're both Korean].

For a first draft this isn't looking too ugly. Hurrah. The main bulk / subject area needs feeding up, it's looking a little starved so far, but I'll examine that when the rest is blocked out. I want to get it hammered out by the end of this week. I'm not too fussed about hitting 7500 words on this draft - when it's written it's written. I estimate the third case study will take another 800-1000 words, and the bulk of the project stuff - aka the actual study of the results - will have to wait until it's finished. I'll be able to write about the plans and my aims for it. Overall I believe the project stuff will take another 1000 to 1500. The conclusion another 500, and that takes the word count up to around 7000. With the aforementioned expansion of the subject area - which I might look at tomorrow actually, while it's fresh in my mind - the word count won't be a problem.

My target for the day was to reach 4000 words. I got to 4453. Hurrah for me, and now I sleep. zzz.
