I'm begining to wonder why this week has been so crappy lately. I got the internet bill sorted out finally and paid for, and today I get a bill from the student loan people. Um...'kay. I asked them to change my address and send me a form for a deferment since I'm unemployed right now, but looking for a job and planning to attend college next ( Read more... )

iRev has Viawest block ICMP "pings" at Viawest's border routers. Remember back when we moved to Viawest as a co-location and bandwidth provider? We moved because of ICMP flooding attacks. And as soon as we landed with Viawest, the attacks changed target and attacked again. So Viawest and iRev put up blocks so the abuse would stop.

If one wants to ping iRev, ping "irev.us": its open.

iRev hasn't had any downtime in 8 days, and the downtime 9 days ago was due to the MySQL upgrade issue.

Just tested lamianights.net from the old irev server in San Diego, servers in New York and Atlanta, and from my cable modem in Las Vegas. All pull up lamianights.net fine.

We're on AIM now, lets see what happens:

  • You can ping irev.us okay.
  • Huh. Since when does Win98 not have "nslookup"?
  • You can view the irev.us webpage okay
  • You can't view irev.net webpage (irev.net and irev.us are different IP addresses, one number apart)
  • iRev can not open www.ev1.net
  • My cable modem can open www.ev1.net
  • iRev can resolve the address of ev1.net
  • A traceroute from iRev pushes through Viawest and out onto Level3's backbone and through to twtelecom.net, then dies.
  • Servers in NY, Atlanta, and San Diego can view www.ev1.net fine.
  • Your computer can resolve the IP address of iRev and LamiaNights.net fine.
  • Sourcing a ping on iRev's server from irev.us to ev1.net returns 100% ping replies, no loss.
  • Sourcing a ping on iRev's server from irev.net to ev1.net returns 0 ping replies, 100% packet loss.

    Temp solution:
  • switch DNS for lamianights.net to iRev.us's IP
  • Call Viawest and ev1 and have them flush router caches or something.
