I was cracking up hysterically at this and sent it to my dad.  As always, he responds with a hilarious e-mail. Check out the subject line. WOW he's cheesy...

Shootings

In other news THIS and THIS scares me...Thank GOD nobody was physically injured.  I don't know what's going on around here lately, but it's getting a little bit out of hand, what with the gf ex-bf and professor shootings on campus too...It's scary to think of how you can REALLY not know someone in your midst.  Unfortunately, the article mentioning a "Korean" becoming irate reflects rather poorly on the Korean community, but I suppose every group has these...

Justice and Fiction

I re-read To Kill A Mockingbird yesterday for my Justice and Fiction class.  I hadn't read it since 8th grade and I was amazed at the depth of the novel.  So many themes, lessons and morals to learn....Concepts I'm fairly certain I didn't fully grasp back when I was 13.  I think the part that struck me those most (putting aside wanting to be an attorney like Atticus and his incredible integrity and HUGE heart) was the voice of the child.  I've always had a heart for children, especially after representing the abused/neglected kids in dependency court for clinic, but it seems like everywhere I turn, I marvel at the innocence and frailty of sweet untainted children.  They soak up things like sponges and we ignore them, thinking they don't understand adult concepts.  But they do!  They understand an amazing amount of things about the world that we, as adults, cannot see anymore.  That innocence and beauty is gone.  Dill cries at the injustice and Mr. Reynolds tells him he won't cry at the injustice and unfairness after he ages a few more years.  It seems that only the children in Maycomb (again, minus Atticus) are the ones who stand up and cry out against the injustice.  Why is that?  Why don't the adults cry out and fight - we're the ones with the power!
