I thought today was going to be a "rest day" for me - a day spent in my airconditioned room, lying down on my comfortable queen-sized and watching my favorite shows on Discovery Channel. Instead, I had a different kind of "rest". I did rest from school and work-related worries; not by spending a lazy day locked up in my room, but rather by going out with my true love, Aaron, and catching the earliest Man of Steel (the new Superman movie shown starting today) screening time at Shangri-la Plaza. We both tried our best to be at the mall by the time it opens in the hopes that we would still be able to get remarkably good seats, but unfortunately our best would not be able to affect our seat choices much anymore since apparently the cinema there sold tickets in advance. Most of the good seats, if not all, were already taken, for almost all time-slots except for the ones ending way past the mall's closing hours. Aaron and I decided to watch the 3D version of the movie shown in the afternoon, where we were still able to buy tickets for adjacent seats that were not too close to the screen.
Man of Steel. The movie certainly exceeded my expectations by a mile. I appreciate how the movie explained Superman's beginnings - where he came from, who his parents were, why he was sent to Earth, etc. Being ignorant of comics (including those featuring Superman), my knowledge of his character isn't much to boast off. I only know what most people know, like how he's weak against kryptonite (although I don't know what), that he's from a planet called Krypton and that he has superhuman abilities such as great strength, flight, x-ray vision, and laser ray eyes. Aside from that, the new actor playing the role of Superman was really convincing. He may not be as handsome as Christopher Reeves (the Superman of the 80's and early 90's) but he's certainly more charismatic and engaging. His charm grows in you, and before you know it, you feel like you have finally met the real Superman on screen. I think, just like Robert Downey Jr. playing Ironman, this Henry Cavill is here to stay. Aaron said he won't be surprised if this movie is intended to kick-start the Justice League series (counterpart to Avengers).
After the movie, Aaron and I had super late lunch at Cyma where Aaron treated me my favorite salad, Tonnos Salata (not sure if I spelled that correctly), and moussaka. Both of which are my favorites from that famous Greek restaurant. He paid quite a lot for that lunch, which made it officially our anniversary lunch date. Haha..
Serenitea followed our lunch, my treat. There, we got to talk about NBA and check on the scores of today's game between Heat and Spurs. May I just say, I'm quite pleased with today's results. Spurs winning by more than 30 pts came as a huge surprise, but a welcomed news at that. That team doesn't fail to surprise me. It seems like they have a lot of "secrets". Who knew those bench players had that in them? They even scored higher than Heat's Lebron.
When we ran out of things to do in the mall, Aaron brought me to his place at GA Towers. He showed me around the condo he and Adrian was renting, and even cooked me dinner of the classic corned beef with garlic. With him cooking it, that simple dish seemed extremely appetizing. I ate quite a lot of it. After dinner, he told me he'd make me my favorite tuna with cheese next time I come visit.
