- talking politics with aunt #1. She was a heroin-addicted hippie in the 60s and is now as hard-core a Republican/Dittohead/Glenn Beck follower as you can find. She believes Palin is intelligent because she was governor of Alaska and was unfairly vetted by the press. It's the rare political discussion when you can laugh yourself to tears.
- Aunt #2 gave my daughter leopard print shirt and pants, my son camo pants, and me camo boxers. CAMO BOXERS. That's such a thoughtless gift because then I have to buy matching sheets to make my groin invisible!
- a heated discussion between my pigheaded sister who had stepped way out of line a week or so ago while my peacemaker bro-in-law circled nervously, miserable to be in the middle. Logic wore her down some, as much as such a thing could be done.
-out and out jealousy at how cool my nephew's Heritage Rangers jersey is. A size or two bigger and it was leaving with me.
- two kids each playing their own keyboards that feature a meowing cat mode the entire 1.5 hour trip home.
- traditional Xmas fare of veal ossobucco (sp?) and crab-stuffed mushrooms.
- the frustration of watching my 11 year old nephew flail away ineffectually at Kinect Boxing. Jab, son, jab!
- my iRiver running out of battery charge 20 minute into the trip down, right after Becky informing me that Barbie liked that 'You got a friend' song (Me First and the Gimmie Gimmies).
- making jokes now but having an overall decent time, especially talking to my 17 year old niece who is smart and funny and has the whole world in front of her. Kid's got her head on straight.
