Yeah, I'm ready for the weekend. Long week. Really looking forward to spending time with The Wife tonight, our weeknights have been pretty much hectic all week and we can catch up and have some fun. The Cat continues to be fun so far, no doubt lulling me into a false sense of security. Playful little booger. Becky is in heaven and Laura might not be too far behind. So far, good decision by me to bring the little wanderer in.
So last night was a 4-7 called The Thin Gray Line - we had a full group of six and a slow but good DM. As we had leaders out the yingyang (but terrible ones who gave no bonuses to attacks) I went with my 4th level paladin and got a lesson in running a low level character in a high tier mod. I've done it before - I'd rather be a low guy on a higher game than a high guy in a lower game - that is, I;d rather play 4th level in a 4-7 than in a 1-4. Better loot. More challenging.
last night, super challenging. Seemed everyone did either ongoing damage or immobilized. Now I;d taken human resolve at level to give me a +1 on saving throws, so I need a 9 instead of a 10 for the zillion saves I had to make.
I rolled 8 7 times. 7 TIMES! Unreal. Plus these guys were like +13 to attacks so I took a beating, which is what i do. I also either boned or critted my attack rolls, more the former than latter. Still, I was twice as effective as the other paladin (I think he's not a great player) and it was fun. next week I'm running, I'll probably stop after practice tuesday and prep. last night I busted out the play doh for columns and barrels and the paint swatches for fire, and people loved them. And Myleck lived on to fight another day (no good loot. crap).
There was a lot of discussion about the just-passed Dexcon and I realized that these people are pretty much gaming snobs. they were roasting other players they'd had sessions with if they hadn't optimized their characters and so on. It's tough not to in 4e, just a little, but it felt nice to crush a skill challenge with some fast talking and a +14 diplomacy. I am a silver-tongued bastard (I really am not the most chivalrous of paladins - I mean, I serve the god who judges you when you die, so I feel there's wiggle room there). The cleric is more fun to play, I think, although she's going to have trouble hitting things at this level soon. Ah well. HEAL HEAL HEAL.
