"waiting for the rain to stop. destination: beautiful..."

i'm doing a lot of college stuff today. it's kind of making it more real, which is making it easier for me to deal with. i don't mind so much anymore the going a day early thing, except i'm automatically volunteered to help everyone the next day, the real move in day. i barely know my way around campus or anything, why should i help? but whatever. we'll probably do it anyway, i'll suck it up, and get on with life.

i spoke about workcamp today at the 11:00 service. This year I went thinking "same old, same old." As the youth veteran, I thought I knew everything. Afterall, this was my 5th year going to workcamp. And when I wound up in the emergency room 2 days before due to a reaction to medicine, I wondered if God really wanted me there at all. But a speedy recovery led me to be on that van early Saturday morning, on my way to what I though was going to be "just another workcamp."

God had some surprises in store for me, though. My crew and I clicked right away and got along really well. Our job was to paint the second story trim on a house that belonged to a single mom with a 4-year-old son, Isaiah. On the first day, the son spit on me, and when one girl on my crew was painting outside a window, Isaiah was inside the room screaming and throwing things at the window. A 16 year old boy on my crew, Rich, took Isaiah under his wing and by the end of the week, Isaiah was cooling us down with the squirt guns Rich had bought him and laughing and playing with us and "helping us paint."

On the last day, he came out with his mom who gave us gifts. He handed each of us a card he had made. He was too young to write anything in the card and had simply folded a piece of paper and stamped the front. I will keep that piece of paper forever.

It's sad knowing I might not be able to do another workcamp since I am going off to college, but I will always hold it close to my heart. i kind of deviated from what i had written when i spoke, but oh well. i wrote that during Sunday school today. haha.

chores time and all that college stuff...

oh, and i have the sweetest boyfriend ever. =-)
