B and the itches

Mar 14, 2008 22:25

Alls well NOW. But tonight was a little frightning. Barry had a horrible allergy attack... we went out to dinner to a buffet place that the kids wanted to try. Barry had been there several times for lunches so we thought it would be ok.
Tonight Barry had Pork Ribs with BBQ sauce, two bites of my garlic mashed potatoes, fresh fruit, a piece of wild salmon, saffron rice, chicken? (I'll have to ask him if he had more than a bite of con's), pineapple upside down cake and bread pudding.
We still think we have the allergen down to just a few things, bay leaf being the most promising. But it looks as if he'll definately have to have the testing done now.
We left izzy's, picked up my check at HD, stopped at goodwill: looking, as always, for jeans for me for work. While we were at Goodwill B started itching and I thought his voice sounded weird.
We left right away and started coming home, it was probably 15 minutes to our house. He had to pull over and let me drive as he was getting dizzy and felt like he had a golf ball in his throat.
I called Elisha on the way home, she and the kids met us at our house and they stayed with our kids while I convinced B to go to urgent care with me. There was a sign saying it was a 3-4 hour wait but they took his oxygen level and took him back immeadiately. He had a shot of epi there, they put in a saline cath in case he needed more meds pushed, and then decided to send him to the ER as they weren't open as long as the standard observation period for giving epi. We said we'd go straight there but they wanted B to go in an ambulance. On the way there they did give him more benedryl via the cath. (for those of you who don't know B, he is VERY afraid of needles, has passed out before from seeing the bandaids our kids get from vaccines). He did pretty well, got a little whiter around the edges but nothing major, I was impressed with him.
I got to the ER and sat with him for a little while, they gave him a breathing treatment with an air blowing thing (I wasn't there when they were explaining it to him, and he doesn't remember what it was). They also gave him a steriod shot through the cath. We got home earlier than we thought we would, the kids are sleeping at elisha's and I am off to bed as I have to work all day tomorrow. The doc said that B should be fine, he has a prescription for the steroid to take for the next 3 days. Both the urgent care doc and the ER doc said Barry should be tested ASAP for what the allergen is because his reaction this time was considered aniphilactic, and serious. They said his uvula was very swollen, his tonge was swollen but that he still had room in his throat. His lungs were also quite "sluggish".
I have quietly been freaking out all night so tomorrow I should have a wopper of a headache, esp. considering i got my period while we were sitting at the ER.
Barry is in bed now, I am going to go watch him sleep for a little while before falling asleep myself.

OH, and alicen can't have any "normal" type of bandaid (either plastic or latex) as she is reacting with large red welts around the bandaid. I think it has to be the adhesive...the bandaid she put on her thigh was there for maybe 13 hours, there is still an outline of it more than a week later on her skin, it is faint, but didn't start out that way. I have to remember to put that on her record at school.

AUGH, off to bed.
