Its a lazy work weekend over here! I love it! No groups, no rotten kids with their rotten parents and rotten values! We do have a church group in house, and when they came back from the fireworks there was this big long procession trying to keep quiet as they all went straight to their rooms and then all was quiet again. Its magical! Some might say I'm a jaded, bitter, misanthropic bastard, but I'd say to those people, "You obviously don't have to deal with people who feel they should be given everything at no cost to them at their slightest insistance." Bah.
So here I sit. I didn't know it was going to be a slow weekend otherwise I might've grabbed my KOTOR save off of my desktop. OH! Speaking of my desktop, a friend of mine works for a company that does a lot of computer repair. He snagged me an 8800gts graphics card and handed it over for free! Before you people start worrying, the part came back returned but had no paperwork and no way to trace where it came from so it was literally going into the trash. I put it in my computer but my power supply was not up to the task, but it gets better! My friend recently ordered (and has already installed) a new motherboard and CPU, so he is bequething to me his old Motherboard, CPU, and RAM (He has something different from DDR but I still have DDR)! So all of this constitutes nearly a complete upgrade. I hadn't planned on buying anything big before Gen Con, but I went out and dropped $300 (approximately) to get a new case (sweet as hell), Power Supply, and DVD Burner (its got a light scribe, not that I actually burn a lot of DVD's, maybe I should change that). I can't tell you how excited I am! Even though I just bought a laptop I'm getting a major PC upgrade for really cheap! I was feeling jealous cause Amber topped out her rig (all parts brand spanking new!). Its not the evil jealous, but my rig is old and wasn't top of the line when I got it. I've done a few things with it, like the graphics card, sound card, and RAM, but I like to think of myself as a tech guy, and it was a harsh realization that I was going to have to wait. Thanks go out to a great friend of mine! For those of you wondering, here's the (rough) upgrade...
AMD CPU 1.6ghz ---> AMD CPU 2.6 (overclocked to 2.9) Dual Core (YES!)
2GHZ DDR RAM ---> 4GHZ DDR RAM
256mb Nvidia Geforce 6600 ---> 640mb nvidia 8800gts
That's the basic specs. I'm going to put some parts back into my old rig and give it to a friend who had to hawk her computer recently. I'm sure she'll be happy to get a new rig :)
