VirginiaFIRST was created in order to support FIRST teams and programs across the region. This effort takes the work of dozens of volunteers, year round, and we are always hard-pressed to single out just one to recognize. But this year, it wasn't difficult to identify just the right candidate. Or should we say candidates!
The 2008 Volunteer of the Year is shared by two inseparable people who have contributed greatly to FIRST's growth and success. Friends since high school, they were determined to continue their relationship with FIRST once they reached college. They brought their interest in FIRST with them to VCU where collectively and individually, they answered every call for help and wore every hat imaginable. They have stuffed invitations, helped with set up, and given us a hand at any number of FIRST events. They have lugged and carried and dropped off and picked up time and time again.
Their greater leadership has helped to catapult FIRST across the VCU campus and into the community. They helped re-energize the VCU FIRST Robotics Club and have ably coordinated the VirginiaFIRST Alumni Association, in order to reach out to other FIRST team graduates to help them stay connected and involved with FIRST. You see these two everywhere. We want to acknowledge them with this award. Let's all say thank you to Sam Trumbull and Jeff Wetzel for all they do. They are truly worthy recipients of this year's Volunteer of the Year Award.
