Another day in paradise

Been a crazy morning already. Thoughts on the day so far:

1. Its not a good thing when you see your train pull up while you are still hunting for a spot in the BART parking lot. Probably not great when you pound your steering wheel in frustration and a cop car comes up and the police stare at me as I got out of the car and walked to the station.

2. Apparently my collection clients aren't looking for an attorney who is nice to the debtors. Go figure.

3. Don't look now, but the Sabercats have quietly moved into first place. Took them nine weeks, but they're in the driver's seat now.

4. Terry Francona was taken to the hospital this morning with heart trouble. Not that I have any love whatsoever for the BoSox, but I was disappointed to hear that.

5. Finally made an appointment to bring in my car for a long-overdue service.

6. Will and trust documents are far less creative than corporate planning documents.

7. Money sucks. Why can't people just accept your good will and thanks as payment enough?

8. I hope the next pope is from a third world country. (He won't be.) But whoever it is, I hope they can find a way to get eh American Catholic Church in order. The revelations coming to light in the child abuse cases before the Alameda County Superior Court this week are shameful.

9. The Daily Review reported a huge scandal involving the new bay bridge. Apparently, to stay on schedule and under "budget," about 1/3 of the welds in the bridge are substandard. (I use the budget in quotes because this has gone from a $900 million project to a $10 billion fiasco). Rumor has it that the bridge the new span is replacing is actually safer because of the problem with the welds. Ah, our tax dollars at work.

10. This new revelation about the bridge welds is symptomatic of a greater problem: Corruption at all levels of government in the Bay Area is at an all-time high. Moreover, CalTrans has gone from being the best in the country to a collection of incompetent boobs.

Like my old grandpappy used to say, "Move to the sticks, kid - at least the politicians have less shit to shovel out there."
