Hey all! As promised in the away message, I'm now updating the livejournal. Two times in one month...amazing. Anyway, the return from Rome has been good on the whole. Time zones aside, I didn't realize how much I missed America too. For your domestic information, secular government (when certain officials remember it) and clean air (again, when certain officials remember it) are only the beginnings of that national awesomeness.
I spent the first few days back at home. There was a large quantity of laziness involved therein, including two or three days where I did absolutely nothing productive. The first time that I turned the ignition in my car (a sporty maroon '92 camry) the battery died straightaway; after getting it replaced though, driving was very enjoyable. As sarcastic as it sounds, it's true: there's something about going around the block fifty times to make sure the engine works that lets your mind get to the root of what's bugging you and resolve it. I think I've finally come to terms with my troubles (last vestiges of Julie-angst, the lack of summer job, and undecided future concentration/career) and I'm better for it. Finished a paper on Job and the Brothers Karamazov on Saturday (yay extensions!) and I also got to catch up with Francis at Wings (where the second degree of buffalo wing spiciness is far more than sufficient).
Harvard's treating him well (which is a good thing, considering the fact that it's a mediocre school--just kidding) and all seems to be going well for him. If he's reading this (in fact, if anyone is reading this) I hope [t]he[y] remember[s] to keep in touch.
Brown is just as awesome as when I left it (and such a refreshing familiarity from the Roman odyssey)--people are still cool and classes are still good. I was glad to get a chance to catch up with the unit after I got back--they're all awesome folks and I love mooching off of their coolness. Or something like that.
Joy leapt to my heart as Jane got back from Egypt Monday. She called when she'd cleared customs in Boston and I wasn't able to focus in Russian at all. Absence does make the heart grow fonder, and I feel all warm and tingly inside when I get to be around her. Yay Jane!
I also discovered
this facebook deal. It just made its way to Brown and is catching on like wildfire. Well-designed and fun--it promises to be a good outlet for procrastination now that
pong is getting old.
Anyway, that's all that's new for now; time to go read the case for section tonight. Have fun, leave lots of wonderful comments, and I'll see you all soon.
Ciao.
