Mom's okay

So for those who don't know (because Mom didn't want me to say anything), my mother went into surgery this morning to remove a mass in her lung.

Luckily, they caught it very early (as part of her pre-op for the vascular surgery she underwent last month), and the doctor recommended that she simply have it removed, as soon as possible, rather than go under the knife twice. (They'd have had to take a chunk of it for biopsy anyway.)

I'm pleased to report that she came through the surgery just fine, but missing a chunk of her lung tissue and an unwelcome mass that's even now being analyzed. The verdict thus far is that it looks "clean" -- whatever that means. I think what it probably means is that there is no evidence of anything more than the bit they removed. The surgical team said that she was very healthy and is expected to recover smoothly.

She's sore, and tired, but in decent spirits. She should be home in a few days.

We're all very relieved.

family, being sick sucks
