Apparently, on some occasions,
the Queen *is* amused.
Following Bush's verbal misstep (gosh, who saw that coming?) when he *almost* suggested that the elderly Elizabeth had been here in the 18th century, and said "she just gave me a look only a mother could give a child", the elderly monarch took it all in stride. But she got a joke in at his expense, too, which endeared her to many. Dispensing with protocol briefly at the formal dinner she hosted for President Bush, Queen Elizabeth said, "I wonder whether I should start this toast by saying, 'When I was here in 1776.' "
