Just got a cortisone shot in my shoulder following an MRI. Amazingly 7 months of pain has almost disappeared overnight after the shot. It was never a huge handicap, but it's nice to be able to reach for things above my head without gritting my teeth to anticipate the sting or moving in slow motion. Turns out that my shoulder impact (ran into a wall when I swam without looking in front of me 7 months ago :p) bruised up a tendon that already had tendonitis from overuse a long time ago. It swelled up and became just a little too big for the place it's supposed to slide around and brushed against bone every time I raised my arm. And I guess I never gave it enough of a rest and so it continually re-inflamed. Anyway, the cortisone (which directly shrinks down the swelled scar tissue) seems to have worked a real miracle, and 75% of the pain is gone. We'll see how long it lasts.

Shoulder MRI is pretty difficult. You have to hold absolutely still, and since the shoulder is so close to the chest, this means breathing through your stomach for the up to 12-minute-long continuous scans. The machine is so loud they give you noise cancelling headphones while you are in it.
