Been in CA for about a month now. Pretty kewl. I moved into the Sunset neighborhood, a place that is foggy all summer, at all hours. There's a nice view of the ocean from my bedroom window, but I only just saw through the haze for the first time yesterday. Work is in Sunnyvale, about a 45-50 minute drive south. The weather is just the opposite there... always sunny. There hasn't been a single overcast day since I've been here. Just a few minutes down the highway from my apartment is the dramatic line where these two climates collide. It doesn't look like normal fog, more like a thundercloud that fell to the ground. Or like the inner wall of a hurricane or a non-fiery version of the flying saucer clouds in Independence Day. The wall of fog goes up pretty high, so you can see jetliners vanish as they pass that plane on the way to SFO.

Yahoo is great so far. Interesting work and a great culture, prolly similar to a lot of the other tech companies around here. The lawns between our buildings are littered with employees taking wiffleball breaks or occasionally bands playing onstage at lunch. There's multiple beach volleyball and basketball courts, foozball and pool everywhere, a fitness center.. you can even get haircuts, massages and dental service by stepping onto different buses that park in the lot weekly. And soon there will be free shuttles with wireless Internet access to take me from SF to the office! There are tons of resources to do little original projects for fun and give input for other products. But it's too bad they don't pay us to work on random stuff like Google does.

This is gonna be the first year that I will have zero homework on weekends, and that is a pretty alien feeling. I find myself still going through checklists in my head during the weekends, trying to structure out how to "get things done". So far I can put move-in things on that list, like buying a bed or connecting my cable service, but it won't be long til I running out of work to do in my spare time.. hahaha. But I'm ready for it... already bought an unrestricted season pass to Kirkwood.. still need a wetsuit, surfboard and new mountain bike.

But I miss Boston a lot. Still have yet to find a local replacement for Cafe Mami, Grill 23 or Dan & Sky's poker room. So it was good to have a few beers with Rob 2 weeks ago, and Jae & Jiyeon last weekend.. and maybe Charlene this weekend!
