So Saturday was a blast. I mean a blast x 1000. Six Flags is a good amusement park, not as great as PKI, but still a good amusement park. The lack of organization is a little unnerving, but other than that good times. We started the morning off waking up at around 8am. We got ready and met the 4th member of our group at Port Authority. Thanks to
we obtained roundtrip bus tickets and park admission for $50.50. We ran to catch a bus before the last of the daily buses departed and we were split up. Colin and I on bus #1 and JP and Elliot on bus #2. Bus #1 had screaming babies
on it, such a great way to start the day at 9:10 in the morning. While bus #2 had screaming teenagers on it. The kind that know better than to be so loud, but do it anyway cause well, they are just that type.
So bus #1 arrives shortly before bus #2 and then we head into the park. It is now about 10:45ish.
We head into the park and have to go through metal detectors where a first class security guard, probably just graduated high school, rummages through our bags to make sure we have nothing illegal. Well actually, first I go through then he has to stop to hell go through some strollers coming into the park so our line is held up. Meanwhile, the line next to ours is going straight through into the park. No one notices the beeping and honking of the metal detector as no less than 40 people have entered the park who, I'm sure, have brought guns, bombs, and knives and much more into the park. So, our line starts moving finally and the security guard scoffs and makes a gay comment about Elliot's bag, calling it a purse and then we are into the park.
We are now hungry and must stop for food. Pizza, not LAROSAS like good ole PKI, but PAPA JOHN's, just not the same. We spend a shitload on pizza nad a drink and then are off again. Well, Six Flags Great Adventure is a SMOKE FREE ENVIRONMENT! So, I am ok with this as a smoker. I am used to it since living in the city, but its just a hassle to find one of the FIVE designated smoking areas (benches rather) where it is permitted. Not annoying to a smoker, annoying to the non-smoker(s) with the smokers. We finally find the first smoking area. It took a while because the Six Flags map was drawn by a 3rd grade class.
(just a small part of it)
Ok, so we are off. To finally tackle the park, it is not a bit after NOON. We attempt to find something to ride, using the 3rd grade assignment map, and have a some trouble, but Colin manages to figure the map out. And we make it to the Scream Machine, after attmpting to go to SUPERMAN, but that ride only had one car running and it was about a 4 hour wait, even I was against that. SCREAM MACHINE.
Max wait time: 30min. We just hopped right next door to the Space Shuttle. The space shuttle is like the viking ship, but cooler. You go all the way around eventually and there is a few seconds at the top where you just hang upside down. Small ride, but very cool. Again, max wait time: 15min.
We head off to smoking area #2 and have a little easier time finding this one, so we smoke and then head off again. Across the park to some other area.
We will now go to ride MEDUSA. This ride is like face off except no facing and you are perched on top of the ride, not hanging from it and you dont go one way then return. So really its like face off in the way that your feet dangle. LOL. Max wait time: 20min.
So now we are off to ride ride number 4. This is where we hit a problem. We get in line for EL TORROH. Its the new wooden roller coaster, #2 to the Beast, but with the highest hill. It has just been broken down and started running again. We are told the wait is about 2hrs. We get in line and wait. The other three comrades begin to get irritated with standing and waiting and I become silent. I am ok with waiting and really want to ride this ride. I get all clammed up as to not sound angry and just agree with what they say. (rhonda and well anyone knows what this is like). we get out of this line and go next door to ride a not so cool wooden roller coast that I can't even remember the name of. Oh yeah, it was called Rolling Thunder. Set up like the racers, but only one side was working. It is shaky and not that long or high, but a good coaster. max wait time: 35min (because the youngsters operating this ride were less then intelligent.)
So, I try to let the fact that I didn't get to ride El Toro pass.
We then make a game plan to go eat some lunch/dinner and then find another designated smoking area and then tackle the giant...KINGDA KA! Because we have been informed by the ride operater, the not so smart one, that the wait is about and hour and half,,,and that is unthinkable for KINGDA KA.
We all eat chicken fingers and fries and then have some luck finding smoking area #3. Then head back to KINGDA KA. We get in line and we wait...and wait....and wait...but no one is getting annoyed, we are all really excited about getting on this ride. WEll, Elliot is not as excited and tries to wimp out, but we get him some Lemonade and make things all better. We finally get up to the waitin area by the ride and my stomach was turning from excitement. We get on...pull forward and in seconds we are done. We have gone from 0-128mph in seconds,,,been taken 456feet into the air, then dropped 456 feet down, gone over another hill and then stopped....no more than a 30 second ride. IT WAS UNREAL! AMAZING! BRILLIANT! WORTH EVERY SECOND OF THE WAIT!
the wait!
going up!
coming down!
all around amazing. The pictures that were taken were great. We looked scared, excited, and just so damn happy. though of buying one, but then decided it wasnt worth $20+. Max wait time: 2hr 15min.
It is now 7:20pm'ish and we decide we should start making our way to the front to catch our bus. We find our last smoking section of the day, jp makes friends with an older black lady. I buy a much needed funnel cake and we go get on our bus to go home.
So we rode 5 rides in about 7hours. Much of the time was spent being list, trying to find rides, and smoking. It was a great day though. The weather was perfect. Hot, but not too hot. The sun was behind clouds most of the day so it was not beating directly on us. We all got along for the most part and there is still so much to do when we decide to go back. Still, no PKI!
Ps. We also played which Golden girl and Sex in the City girl we were. Fun times. The day was known as "When Four Fags take on Six Flags. or the Golden Shower Girls." Next the Golden Shower girls take on the beaches of NYC.
