later, when i think about 2007, i'm sure what i will remember is how it ended, not how it began. but if i manage to think about 2007 past the last couple weeks of december, i will remember other things.
i will remember b and me, early in the year, when he wasn't doing well at all, sitting outside bars, smoking, silently.
i will remember sitting on the beach in san diego in march, and the sunburn i got while watching the seals and the waves.
i will remember sitting in class, arguing with idiots and reading polish poetry, and how i came to understand what people really mean when they say "revolution."
i will remember graduation, how it was so unbelievably hot and we were wearing robes of blue polyester, almost surprised at feeling really accomplished because we'd spent so many weeks in stressed out crisis.
i will remember the first time i walked into this house, how the light was coming through the windows just right and i knew that i had to have it.
i will remember the lead up to the wedding - the chaos, the planning, and ultimately, i will remember how i gasped when i peeked around the corner into the chapel and realized that everyone in the whole world that i loved (at that time) was in the same room, waiting for us to walk through that door.
i will remember moving here, and walking around washington for the first time as something other than a tourist.
i will remember eating popsicles on the national mall and beginning to learn how things fit together in the neighborhoods i know now so well.
i will remember the months i spent waiting for news of a job, and the weeks i spent drinking in the day time and playing video games.
i will remember feeling like it was never going to happen, and like maybe i should just apply for a job at starbucks, since apparently that's all my thousands of dollars of education are worth.
i will remember how excited i was to finally start doing something, how, just like everyone else, i came to the city bright eyed and idealistic, wanting to make a difference.
it has been a long year, full of new things. so many new things in fact that i am skeptical about this year, about what could possibly happen to distinguish it, since everything life-altering seemed to have happened last year.
