[ Good evening, folks. Today, you get three not so lovely options as Monaco does her best to adapt to Mayfield.

Un: After thoroughly complaining about the bland clothing here, Monaco can be seen on the porch with a sewing kit, ripping off the extra length to a poofy skirt while altering her blouse. A few needles may or may not whizz right by your ( Read more... )

[Walks by as Monaco is working on modifying her clothes. Miracle of miracles, she's got the previously missing arm back! She smiles and walks up to see what she's up to.]

"Oh, hello Monaco!"

[Taiwan's intact limb is the first thing she notices, giving a small wave and a polite smile as she approaches.] You look well.

[Smiles back, nodding graciously.]

"Thank you for the other day. I really feel a lot better."

No need to thank me. I was just...worried. [Jeez, feelings are so weird.]

You're a nice girl. Wouldn't want to see you hurt.

You're lucky you missed all of that. It was terrible.

I'm not too sure I'd be pleased to live in Soviet Mayfield. [She frowns.] On the positive side, most people seem to be healed and faring well.

Bouncing back quickly is something you have to learn to do to survive living here, unfortunately.

Hm. [She's obviously pondering that thought, successfully prodding herself with one of the needles in the process.]

Those things happen often? I guess it could be worse, but it's difficult to trust others in a place like this.

Every few months. Usually on or around American holidays. For example, during Mother's Day and Father's Day this year, women and men gained the temporary ability to give irresistible commands to the opposite sex. It's more often something like that, but sometimes there are these large-scale town-wide things like the Soviet Mayfield incident or Westport.

That would seem perfectly harmless, but I know what others can be capable of. [Pause.] Westport? Is that a neighboring town of some sort? I haven't heard it mentioned.

[Sighs deeply at the Westport question.]

"It's supposedly a neighboring town. Most of the time it's impossible to get there. But a few months ago, a road leading there opened up for about a week. After a week, though, everyone who was still over there looking around was trapped there. I wasn't there personally, but I heard it was like a copy of Mayfield that had been destroyed in a war. There were men in hazmat suits going around spraying toxic fumes everywhere and killing people. Most of the people who were there don't like to talk about it."

[Uncomfortably rubs her arm.]

"...Netherlands was there. I don't think he's ever fully recovered from the experience."

Oh.

[Stays quiet for a bit. It seems that she struck a nerve, so she shifts uncomfortably and turns her attention to her sewing.]

That sounds absolutely awful. This place doesn't seem too terrible but after all I've heard, it seems like they like to lull people into a false sense of security and then attack when least expected. It reminds me of a sick virtual game.

It's very much like that, yes. When there's nothing going on, as long as you're careful you can have a pretty peaceful life. But everyone seems to forget how bad it can really get in between. Or... maybe they just sort of block it out.

I couldn't blame them. Other than the horrifying drones, it seems like the perfect image of a peaceful town in America. It can be somewhat tedious, but we have to carry on as best as we can until we find a method of escape.

Yeah. I know there's some people working on that, but I'm not really sure of the details. And it's more like there are a lot of different groups of people doing various things. I'm not sure there's ever really been a big town-wide effort. It's hard to get people working together here.

I think most people come together in a crisis, but it's difficult for others to put grudges aside. [Frowns.] We should be working together but unfortunately, they're either apathetic or unwilling.
