“I would sum up my fear about the future in one word: boring. And that's my one fear: that everything has happened; nothing exciting or new or interesting is ever going to happen again ... the future is just going to be a vast, conforming suburb of the soul” ― J.G. Ballard

No one can sufficiently read the runes to tell us precisely what lies up ahead.

But it would be a brave soul to say it will be better than now.

The Anthropocene?

The wars?

The killing?

The poverty?

The Billionnaire Class?

Will they disappear or be subsumed for all of humanity?

No, of course not.

But...if you listen to and take your cue from the politicians and our so-called leaders (*guffaws*), you'd think it was only going to get better.

I mean, all those promises...

Surely we can't be that naive!

For what it's worth - and it's not worth a damn - things will get worse.

Much worse.

And no I don't have a Time Machine (thank you H.G. Wells) but I can feel something of immense portent; namely, the loss of so many things, including the land, the trees, the wild animals and any sense of the word enough.

(No one even knows what I mean when I ask the question: "Yes, but when will we know we've had enough "growth"?")

Does that make me a doomsprayer?

I guess so.

And I'm happy to have that pinned on me - at least for now.

Deep bows.

Blessings,

Julian
