I honestly dont know if there is a worse feeling than knowing you might never see someone again. Sure, you could say that you never really quite know when you will see someone again, who knows, accidents happen, you can never really be too sure. And yes, two of the worst feelings are havng someone close to you die or having your heart stepped on, but really, knowing you wont see someone ever again is just harder at least for me to wrap my mind around. death in general is hard to wrap your mind around.
