THANK YOU. I don' care how much you like the Ramones, its fucking true. They were good yes, but they were a one trick pony. Every song is the fucking same idea to a different beat and rythem.

You guys get sort of unfairly lumped in with all the 77 punk groups. Were you into them or part of a different scene ( Read more... )

The Ramones were a one-trick pony but a pony that was the catalyst for the entire NY & UK punk scenes and therefore one of the most important groups ever.

Plus the first five Ramones records are all classic even if they all sound similar. It doesn't matter. Good songs are good songs.

And while Wire is definitely one of my all-time favorite bands, the last Wire record (this year's Object 47) is pretty weak.

I'd just as well listen to a band make the same (great) album four times, being consistent, than a band make a different (and sometimes not as good) album each time. In music, consistency is as much a virtue as innovation. One could say the same for Stereolab, The Cramps, and any number of revered old blues, reggae, or traditional-music artists.

Besides, Newman's assertion is goofy: Many if not most of the Ramones best songs are on albums 2, 3 and 4.

Wire are a terrific band but if I'm getting dropped on the desert island, I'd take the first three Ramones albums over the first three Wire albums without a second's hesitation. :)
