This will probably be a disjointed entry because I am working while writing. I have to take breaks in between making calls to students telling them congratulations on being accepted to Southwestern in order to write, because typing while on the phone is a no-no in the office, and I've already wasted a few hours looking at facebook pictures and writing postcards.
I didn't realize that I skipped writing about last week, but it ended up, that both my Mass Comm test and my paper for Law and Lit went well, not great, but pretty decent. I'm slightly more caught up with school, but still have a lot of projects and papers to worry about in the future, it's overwheming to think about.
Last week wasn't great, but it wasn't too horrible either. I hung out with Dylan a few times, and with Liza as well. I went to the house on Wednesday, and it was a small, but good study break.
Last weekend was Valloween:
I was a sex-machine robot, with a homemade costume - including touch-light hearts on my chest and buttons with various robot slang written on them. I was proud of my work, especially since the idea came about from being drunk the night before at the house and telling several people that I was going to be a robot, so I had to follow through with the idea. The magic of cardboard, spray paint, and duct tape made my vision become a reality. Several good costumes were made, and lots of male nudity was present while Hard Knox and The Heads played at the house for the party. Highlights included sitting on the stairs late at night with Ben and Lindy dropping trash into people's drinks below resulting in their drunken confusion and yelling of "what the fuck" as they looked around to see who assaulted their beer. I also tried to kick some guy's cowboy hat off of his head, only to actually kick him in the face, oops. Overall, the night had mixed reviews, I got upset at one point, but Liza and I decided to go back to the party and ended up having a good night.
Sunday, per usual, was hungover and I worked on homework for most of the day.
Monday night I went to Austin with Ben, Russell, and Dylan to meet the Keddals for dinner at Shady Grove. It was good to see them, and Owen's cousin Meghan was in town as well with her boyfriend, who had actually been to Winnamucca before - so he warned me about the brothels in preparation for my Spring Break trip.
Tuesday in Austin was so good. I met with several lobbyists at work, wrote memos, and felt productive. I hung out with the Andrews after, and I really do think if it wasn't for my time in Austin that I would be more insane. It's such a nice escape from Georgetown, and I look forward to days at my internship and enjoy gaining more responsibility at work.
Wednesday night I met Ana and Deanna for dinner in Austin for Ana's birthday at Blue Star Cafeteria. I had an amazing salad and cheesecake for dessert, the food and company, of course, were both fun, and it was good seeing them because I hadn't in a while. I went to the Sig house for a short time, and then went over to Korouva to see Walker and friends. By the end of the night, I was out of it, and I have a nice, big bruise on my knee - always a sign of a good evening. But, I had fun talking to Walker on the porch, and seeing Jo, Alex, Liza, Caitlin, and others.
Thursday night was AMAZING. I can't even put into words what it is like to watch various people sing Karaoke at Korouva, recite poetry, and end the night with an all-out dance party. It was very random, much like watching Eric sing "I've Got Friends In Low Places" is along with seeing Kappa Chis drunk off their asses singing along to "Summer Lovin'" as they embrace each other in order not to fall over. Thursday nights are my favorite part of the week, and each week being at Korouva gets better and better.
Friday I went to see Barack Obama in Austin with Liza and Ben. It was packed, but somehow, we ran into Ana, Dubs, David, various Sigmas, some delta force, and even the Andrews. The weather was a mess, the field we were standing in smelled, and it felt like ACL with all the people around, but IT WAS SO AWESOME. We waited about an hour and a half for him to start speaking, and when he did he addressed the issues of universal health care for all Americans, ending the war in Iraq, improving higher education, and continued efforts to help hurricane Katrina victims. Lately, working at the state level of government as allowed me to see first hand how much people can impact politics, and this rally felt very similar in that the crowd was very diverse, from college kids to mothers with their babies to old people, and it was interesting watch the campaign process in action.
Friday night I went with Walker, David, and Natalia to see "Company" performed by SU's theater students. It was entertaining - Patick, I know I told you last night, but again, you were fabulous and your voice sounded great. Casey was also very good, and overall, I'm not a big fan of musicals, but I do love seeing people I know sing and dance, it's always so impressive how talented people I see everyday actually are. After the show, which we all had separate seats at and it was kind of awkward, we went to Walker's and began the party. We walked over to 1304, which is very different from last year, and stayed there most of the night talking on the porch while people inside made a train while dancing to the Arcade Fire. I went home fairly late, but not too bad, and I was able to get up this morning and come in work, which is what I should be doing right now.
Tonight is going to be great as well, it's the tri delt lingerie party, and then Stephen's brother is making an appearance in Georgetown, so there's going to be a party for him. It's been a good week and weekend thus far, I wish it were longer.
I recieved e-mails from Lindsey talking about Africa, she's doing so well, and I can't wait for her to return with all the exciting details of her adventure.
...and, lastly, the most important news of the week: I got accepted to my study abroad program! I'm going to Germany in the fall! The thought of that both scares and excites me... it's going to be amazing.
12 days till spring break!
