Kira had spent the better part of the day wandering around town, checking out the different shops, buying food, and just generally avoiding going back to the creepy house where everyone was staying. Unfortunately, she could only hide out in town for so long before she had to catch the ferry while it was still dusk - the only thing worse than going ( Read more... )

Oh, sweet summer child. You don't know creepy yet.

Creepy was Derek Hale showing up out of nowhere because he walked like a cat. "Kira."

Kira let out a squeal of surprise, and hoped that maybe in the dark he hadn't seen her jump. "Yes! I mean, hi?"

Derek stared at her, mouth drawn into a tight line as he watched her aura closely. He could do that, you know. See auras.

No, Kira didn't know that, but she did know the staring was a liiittle weird. "Um, it's Mr. Hale, right? From Arts and Crafts?"

He hadn't said much yesterday, but she had still noticed him, so there.

"Kira!" Kathy was thrilled to see Kira still in town. Not just because it was Kira, but because she was only too happy to head back to Ingvar with someone else. The few times she'd had to slip back into her new room after a night in Baltimore had been downright creepy.

Baltimore only had, like, muggers and drug addicts and your run-of-the-mill criminals. It didn't have a feeling like you were being watched--and judged--from every angle.

"Kathy, hi!" Kira said, giving her a little wave. "Yeah, I'm heading back, unfortunately. I went by the dorms just to check, but they're still noisy and obnoxious."

"Really?" Kathy's face fell. "Darn. I was hoping they'd be cleared out by now. Aren't there fumigators or something that could deal with this?"

So they wouldn't have to keep sleeping in really creepy rooms? Kathy was pretty sure she'd heard a little girl crying most of last night.

"There should be, wouldn't you think? Maybe the school is punishing us for something?" Kira asked. "Or maybe the school counselor needs more things to do, so they're trying to scare the crap out of us so we need therapy."
