Warrior nun mother superior! As doing work at home is boring as hell, mini-essay for Aqua!
As one of the first people Cindy met at camp, Aqua left a strong impression because she was a dimensional traveller, a magic user and someone fighting against stacked odds. But Cindy got none of the "cryptic magic user" pings or the wicked witch pings from her. Mainly because she's radiating purity and naivete.
For all that Aqua is powerful and has some cool moves, she's so easily flustered that Cindy knows that she really is as young as she looks. Cindy would have been content to let that be because she's not out to disillusion people, but the cut-scene of really bad memories tipped her right over the edge. That's why Cindy sometimes pokes at Aqua's self-righteousness. People who don't know jack about romantic relationships should stay out if them.
But Cindy is largely convinced that Aqua had good intentions, no matter how misguided. Her Fairy Godmother liked to work through pawns and Cindy has some sympathy for those pawns.
Which leads up to how Aqua subconsciously fits into the girlfriend/younger sister role in Camp for Cindy. Cindy didn't have good relations with her step-siblings and there was not much time to hang out with girlfriends. So Cindy drags Aqua around a lot because she believes in being proactive and that doing stuff would stop Aqua from moping around. Cindy will apply the bitchslap if she thinks Aqua is spending too much time navel-gazing/angsting over things that she cannot control, but it is the bitchslap of whatever passes for affection in Cindy's mind.
At first, Aqua thought that Cindy was Cinderella from her world, which is totally awesome in a "reuniting with a lost friend" sort of way. She owes that Cinderella a great deal for helping her friend believe in his dream, and for helping her remember what she was fighting for. She was totally expecting this person and to hear the happily ever after ending that she saw on her world. This is not what Aqua got, however. Instead what she got as alarming at first: the Cinderella she knew was replaced with one that seemed to think dreams were a faded memory and that happily ever afters is a bunch of hooey. The change was so distinct, in fact, that she was fairly certain that Cindy wasn't the Cinderella she knew right away.
After that, Aqua set out to understand Cindy and was not too happy with what she found. She was friendly, true, but she never quite felt completely comfortable with her presence and actions. Each time she thought she saw something good in her, she would do something with a minute or two to return Aqua back toward "this is not somebody you should let your guard down completely." The more she talked to her, the more she knew that she once had something bright and pure inside of her but has started to bury that deep within fake smiles and plastic presentation. Worse, Cindy started asking her questions that she would rather not answer (there's a lot of reasons why Aqua isn't forthcoming with what she knows and thinks -- feel free to ask if you want!). Before the speed hating post, she was about to put her in "watch for her but don't expect anything" category.
Then the speed hating post came and she was able to state a lot of her inner critiques. And I think it was here that Aqua began to see that the glimmers of light she thought she saw wasn't an echo of an older Cindy. She saw genuine concern and genuine compassion and knows that it is real. She's not entirely sure why Cindy wants to hide herself away as deep as she has, but also doesn't think it's hers to ask anyway. She suspects that it is very very painful and even though she has explained some of her story, that she still hasn't heard everything. Aqua has warmed up to her a lot from this, and is actually beginning to answer questions that she would keep completely sealed away. This is not only because Cindy is good at prodding for information (which she is), but also because Aqua feels she can trust her with a little bit more each time they meet. She also knows that Cindy is much more insightful than she appears, and does not mind hearing another person's perspective when it's well thought out.
Right now she has a bit of a high/low thing going with Cindy. Aqua appreciates the concern and the genuine consideration but that nagging feeling of discomfort has not completely gone away. There are also times when Cindy doesn't relent when Aqua does not feel forthcoming to respond and that is starting to wear on Aqua's patience. Aqua has warmed up to Cindy to be an acquaintance, but is also watching her carefully to see how she responds to things and believes. She's also fairly sure that Cindy needs a role-model to remember what it means to have a heart full of light again, and wouldn't mind being that example.
Aqua would mafia for Cindy if the cause was right and she was sure that she wasn't being tricked into it (fairly suspicious).
Cindy's a pushy bitch, that is a fact. Cindy wouldn't deliberately involve Aqua in her causes because they usually fall in the big moral grey area that she usually inhabits.
Cindy trusts Aqua to be herself. Which has its pros and cons. She knows that Aqua will help anyone and anything at the drop of a hat. Which is not always a plus in Cindy's book because there's that thing about good intentions and where they tend to end up.
Cindy mistrusts Aqua's ability to cope with deceit. If a cause is portrayed as righteous, Aqua would be first in line to fight for it. She'd believe this even more if she knew that Aqua had met the other version of the Fairy Godmother. But Cindy doesn't hold it against her because she doesn't have the experience to deal with that sort of thing.
She's already regretting telling Aqua the whole "trust your heart" thing because Camp messes with people's minds and hearts.
