All in one post:

Semi-hiatus for vacation until the 17th of June. I apologise in advance for flakiness or a complete absence as the internet situation is up in the air right now. But tagging in a different time zone should be interesting.

To procrastinate horribly before leaving in a few hours, Cindy hit 10k comments a few days ago and Tiffany ( Read more... )

Relationship for Machika and Cindy! Also possibly first impressions between Leo and Tiffany? Either way they should thread more now that he isn't a wary amnesiac. :|b

Machine . . . is both complicated and simple for Cindy. Simple because hey, she's easy to get along with and she kicks ass. It's complicated because Machika seems to be living life by focusing on other people and Cindy doesn't know if she should interfere. She doesn't like to interfere and she is conflicted because the more she gets to know someone and it is someone she actually likes, she starts to give a crap about them. Especially when a girl is infatuated with a boy who cannot quite commit to or understand the concept of monogamy. She's been there and done that--it wasn't pretty and she would never wish it on anyone else. Unless Machika is okay with the idea of an open relationship . . . But she's a teenager who hasn't had a boyfriend until this one, so that's pretty iffy.

Reverse for both?

I forget when I did this last, but I don't think anything has changed. Which is actually a good thing! Cindy is a solid person in Machika's life, and she likes having that constant. There's this subconscious feeling that something is changing between them, but that it's not a bad change so she's just going with it. She can tell Cindy if she's having problems and Cindy offers her advice! Cindy isn't afraid to tell Machika if she's being stupid. Machika gets the "I am judging you so hard for having an old man as your boyfriend" vibe from a LOT of people, but hilariously enough, she doesn't get it from Cindy. This is probably because she figures if Cindy was judging her, she'd just come out and say it. It's almost sad, because Machika expects that the people she is close to will be open and honest with her if they think something is wrong. In turn, she is open and honest with the people that she cares about! And Cindy is tough, so Machika feels like she could tell her anything. She doesn't have to worry about Cindy like she does with her ( ... )

Not quite the same as the favorites lists below . .

- Brianna
- Machika
- Finnick
- Alice
- Julian

Important means she'd actually go to their aid if necessary and sneak past an army or two to get to them.

Reverse?

-Rain: IT'S RAIN.
-Yuca: IT'S...YUCA(?).
-Alice: IT'S ALICE.
-Ion: IT'S BRO METHUSELAH.
-Leto: IT'S SUPERHERO ALIEN EMPEROR MCAWESOME (idk this is kind of how she thinks of him)

I feel I must make note that technically Cindy would be on that list and bump Leto or Ion off, but Cindy is important in an entirely different way than the others. Machika loves so many people in Camp, but the way you phrased importance brings up the point that Machika doesn't feel protective of Cindy like she does of this group of people. Probably because she knows Cindy can kick ass if she needs to, and doesn't need Machika's help! So her independence essentially makes Machika admire her, and also distances Machika from her because she doesn't need to protect her. IT IS BECAUSE CINDY IS A PROPER ADULT FIGURE, scary thought ( ... )

Cindy is who people need protecting from sometimes, no lie.

She'd be a bitter, bored shoe seller living in New York if she never left the Fable community. And she'd go off to be an adventuress if she left them to explore the world. It would be a lot less focused than her current job and she'd be a hobo but with more style. She would gatecrash parties and chug champagne while picking up one-night stands and generally being a scandal on two legs. While waiting for things to cool down, she would retreat to some remote jungle or farm in France.

Who does Machika dislike in Camp?

Yuki from di[e]ce, for reasons I only vaguely remember. I would have to check my thread logs but I think he tried to bite her hand off when he was a dog and was generally a dick to her for no identifiable reason all of the time. So she’s just WELL FINE I hate you too then!!!!

There was also a brief point in time when she hated Jade and Megamind, but those were essentially fixed! With Jade she has decided to be painfully nice to him to piss him off, and with Megamind she realized that he’s just…stupid. And she can’t fault him for that, so even if she’s still mad at him, she doesn’t hate him. That’s kind of how she rolls with things. It’s not hard to piss her off, but she gets over it! Rain and Yuca piss her off all of the time, and when she first met Eury she pretty much hated him (in her defense, he was kind of trying to steal her bounty). But then she lets it go. So the fact that she’s managed to hold on to her searing hatred of Yuki for so long honestly kind of baffles me ( ... )

She's never even met Megamind before . . .

Cindy doesn't hate anyone in Camp because 1) they are not compromising the safety of her community, 2) they're not hindering her while she works and 3) she's not that bothered, really. It's not professional to let emotions get in the way and she gets along fine with people who have shot at her before. In the spy business, your enemy may be your friend the next day, so there's no point getting worked up over it. She might be annoyed sometimes, but she'll get over it within an hour.

Leo's impressions of Camp?

Megamind indirectly hurt Zero, that makes him worthy of hate, okay. :(

Leo is okay with Camp. It's a place where Elliot is not dead, so it is automatically better than any place where Elliot is dead. Like their home. He's settled into a routine of sorts, and things are interesting enough that he's kept on his toes. He loves the library, not gonna lie. Even the biting books are fascinating. And the fact that he gets a piano all to himself is badass too. So there are lots of positive things about Camp! But there is a downside: people. Leo does not like large crowds of people, and for the most part he has been able to avoid them back home. But in Camp it's almost impossible to avoid large crowds of them, and they swarm to places at random! The people are also, ironically, one of the positives, because he does enjoy some of them. He doesn't really like people or grow attached to them, but I am hoping this will change the more he gets to know people, which is why I am desperate to build CR for him haha. He needs people besides Elliot ( ... )

IT IS A PSYCOTIC FAIRYTALE. But you can’t expect anything else from something that has a heavy Alice in Wonderland theme. Pandora Hearts is basically the story of how for Oz’s 15th birthday he gets dragged into the Abyss by the Baskervilles for reasons that are still a mystery 60 chapters later. He meets Alice in the Abyss, who is a Chain! Chains are things that people can contract with to change the past, but you get a nice little seal along with the Chain, and as soon as the seal is complete then you get dragged into the Abyss forever. But Oz and Alice get out of the Abyss-except its 10 years in the future! Time is weird in the Abyss, idk. So all of the people Oz knew are grown up, etc. And it starts off with Alice wanting to get her memories back and Oz wanting to know the reason he was thrown into the Abyss. But then the plot disappears and a new plot comes in which has something to do with defeating the Baskervilles and protecting these seals so that the leader of the Baskervilles doesn’t get reincarnated. Oh, also, Oz has the ( ... )

Which one? The big Discworld canon or the Tiffany books ( ... )

littlestdeath June 9 2011, 18:58:57 UTC
The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. It is my forever canon and as soon as I get a hold of the second book from my friend I will disappear from the internet for a day to read it. It is about a 20-something year old innkeeper named Kvothe (rhymes with “Quothe”) who is telling his life’s story to a Chronicler, and his life is EPIC. There is humor and trauma and thieving and university and magic and dragons (okay fine it’s not a dragon, but its close!) and a giant library and music and when the first book ends he is just barely 16 and you know more awesome things are coming. If you were to classify Kvothe D&D style he would be a class Bard-Thief-Wizard-EPIC BADASS. The story is supposed to take 3 days to tell, and each book is one of the days, with The Name of the Wind being the first day. I suspect there will be more than three books because it is called the Kingkiller Chronicles, not the Kingkiller trilogy. I AM RIDICULOUSLY EXCITED FOR IT, and it has been a while since I was genuinely excited about a book so that says something. ( ... )

Discworld is my forever staple--it's got YA and adult books. Don't start chronologically with date of publication . . . For the witches, start with Wyrd Sisters. For the City Watch, start with Guards! Guards!. For the Death series, start with Mort.

Most things by Neil Gaiman--both YA and adult.

Diana Wynne Jones' books--a good start would be books like A Tale of Time City for the standalone books or The Lives of Christopher Chant for the Chrestomanci series.

Ursula Le Guin's Earthsea series.

The Princess series by Jim C. Hines--all three fairytale princess as Charlie's Angels, only their boss is a women and they kick ass. And Sleeping Beauty is gay for Snow White.

I could go on, but reverse for book commendations. YA or adult fiction is okay.

I like Hilari Bell's Knight and Rogue series, starting with The Last Knight. It's like Don Quixote for Young Adults, plus the epic bromance of Michael and Fisk.

Eon: Dragoneye Reborn is a good book if you're into chinese mythology and settings, and the female heroine is a pretty strong character! The second book should be coming out soon, too.

I like anything by Tamora Pierce; I don't think she's written anything recently, but she still has a ton of YA books that are worth reading. My favorites are The Circle of Magic quartets.

T.A.Barron's books! He wrote 7ish books on Merlin and then a trilogy on Merlin's decedent; they are very good and I spent my middle school years obsessing over them.

Poison Study and Magic Study by Maria Snyder are really good, but the last book in the trilogy was honestly a disappointment because it was just like Magic Study. They're still an entertaining read with a nice bit of magic and politics ( ... )

I love Tamora Pierce!

Tiffany: She is such a prickly teenager who wants to be both an adult and a teenager at the same time. It is also interesting to play someone who is so literal sometimes that she looks like she doesn't have a sense of humor. She can be hard to play because she is mostly aware of her own issues all the time--thank you First Sight, Second Thoughts and Third Thoughts.

Cindy: Ex-princess is so incredibly social and brash most of the time while being rootless and noncommittal in her personal life compared to the commitment she shows towards her job. It's a thing that sometimes plagues people--detachment from people and commitment to ideals that makes her a good spy and a terrible person to have a long-term relationship with. And she's not really smart or willing to stare down her issues like Tiffany does.

Was that a weird set of pings?

Machika and Leo's terrible/wonderful road trip adventure--aka what would your characters do when thrown together in a strange situation?
